About the gun segment: There is no such thing as an assault weapon. That term was created by politicians to fearmonger. Also, guns don't cause any damage whatsoever. Evil people out to hurt others cause damage. Banning guns has actually not reduced crime, or even mass shootings, in any nation that had attempted it. El Salvador and Homduras, for example, lead the world in murders, despite strict gun laws. In England and Australia, gun bans had no measurable effect on violent crime OR mass shootings. In the U.S., California leads in mass shootings, despite its strict gun laws. Minus 5-10 cities, the United States is in the top 20 safest nations in the world, despite gun ownership being an unrestricted and unlimited right - those 5-10 cities also have very strict gun laws. That brings me to the last point: as an American, I have a right to keep and bear whatever weapons I want, a right that is enumerated in our Constitution. This right PROHIBITS the government from even restricting what weapons we can own in ANY way. And since it is a RIGHT, I am not required to demonstrate a need to exercise it.
