The first "official" yellow card in Test match history took place in 1995 as Ireland took on England. It wouldn't be until 1999 until the sin bin element of the yellow card was introduced.

Very true, but it is still part and parcel of the game style of SA and England. Violence applied, regardless the consequences on the career of the victim.

@@colinhefferman5498 How can you say that, the standard of conversion kicks has improved beyond all recognition, over the last two years. The fitness, speed, variation in tactics, that result from superbly fit players has opened both the women's, and even, the men's games.

Not true - the fist card was issued to Neil Back, by referee Steve Lander. Knowing Back, the card was probably for continual offside.
