The courts are a white institution. Those adjudicating have a poor grasp of the culture that a lot of these young offenders are a part of. Not being able to possess a firearm in these neighbourhoods is the difference between surviving or dying. They don’t understand hip hop either - the content and what it means. 10 years for possession of a firearm is ludicrous.
