Lovely intro video. Interesting to hear about the 1920's blender's glass - Glencairn seems the most used regularly in videos - but it sounds like you can get even more from the blender's glass (presumably to help blender's if they were using more diluted whisky to taste and smell?)
@FirstPhilWhisky3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I imagine that’s why they use it. It’s great for diving into the subtleties of a whisky. Can be impractical though.

I noticed that I liked an old fashioned with say Johnny walker (red or black label) versus when I made it with a bourbon (Woodford reserve). I couldn't figure why it was so different. Thanks. But I use a premix mixer for old fashioned called barsmith. Might have to try it the old fashioned way ;)
@FirstPhilWhisky3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Josh! Yeah I was drinking it with bourbon for a while too, wasn’t until I tried it with a dryer scotch that I enjoyed it more.

Enjoyable and interesting video Phil, don’t like cocktails, but yeah, from time to time I like a malt over an ice ball. Slàinte Phil.

Nice video. I like that you recognize drinking good blends, and some single malts, on the rocks is not a scotch sin, although it seems very awkward to drink from a tumbler with those huge ice cubes? Regardless, what about scotch & soda? It seems to me that's a unique 4th way to drink scotch since the only source of flavor is the scotch (and maybe a lemon twist), so it's very different from drinking a cocktail like the Old Fashion. And the flavors in some blended scotchs seem to react very well to soda. E.g., I wouldn't drink Dewars White Label neat but with equal parts soda and a little ice, the roughness goes away and the taste is that of a pleasant, albeit less complex, scotch that is very refreshing. But I would not put soda in a really good malt blend and I'd never drink a good single malt on the rocks for the reasons you explain.

Nice review. I do like a nice old fashioned now and then. I usually use sugar syrup, but also use 2 whiskies, the founders reserve Glenlivet or Monkey shoulder (40ml) + Ardbeg 10 (20ml) to give it a smoke side. besides that the exactly same recipe, 3 dashes of Angostura bitter and a squeezed orange peel. Cheers. Keep doing these nice reviews.

Oh I’m so trying that splash of Ardbeg in it this weekend. Great idea! Cheers 🥃

@@FirstPhilWhisky I want to try a Smokey Islay, and I never had one before. Would you suggest the Ardbeg over the Laphroige?
@FirstPhilWhisky3 жыл бұрын
How much whisky have you had? If not much, get the Laphroaig 10 (40%). If you are already used to the alcohol burn of whisky - go Ardbeg 10 (46%) I reckon.
@langesterguy3 жыл бұрын
@@FirstPhilWhisky I didn’t even know Ardbeg was higher proof. That will greatly help my decision 🥃

Hello sorry to disturb you. I'm searching answer about the tasting temperature of whisky and if it change from a whisky to another or for brandy i don't know.. And what about the decanting of a whisky, like did it need an aeration (micro-oxygenation) same as Wine or not ? If you have some responses to give I thank you in advance. Great job for the content by the way. See ya

Yeah true. I actually had a bottle of Baiju which is the rice Chinese spirit. It’s interesting stuff and actually sells more than scotch!

@mourbonaventure74753 жыл бұрын
If you are pouring neat you need to put a drop of water in. You unlock the flavors that way. Kinda wasting the glass m8.
@FirstPhilWhisky3 жыл бұрын
Agree! Water can open it up. It depends on the whisky though
