This is because they feel they are more muslim than south asian. religion is what differentiates them from the native population. people forget that race is different from religion. People like to distinguish themselves, and become "special". But they also like conformity, to be part of something. For south asian muslims it is a difficult journey. they are all converted and have nothing in common with the religion that they feel so attached to. hence this arab obsession. It is also a way of feeling or creating a sense of identity, of belonging. As Islam came from Arabia, they focused on that. if it had come from Australia it would have been that. it's not the place it's the search for belongingness.
