Along with the internal problems we also receive influx of poor people mostly from South and north areas. Many native goans have left the state and corporate businesses have taken over.

It is a fabricated excuse by the politicians, authority and builder nexus to build skyscrapers, high-rise buildings and coastal roads on expensive Mumbai land and even worse bridges and roads in the ocean(e.g. Bandra-Worli sea link) to make quick and huge money at the expense of destroying nature (and its beauty), of sane living in and of sane development of Mumbai.. Stop building bridges in the ocean (from Bandra to Versova). Stop the desecration of Juhu Seaface with immediate effect. Save the Juhu Seaface, a 7 km long seaface, which is the most visited beach in Sindhusthaan, with immediate effect. The FSI must be fixed at 1 or less and the height of buildings must be fixed at 98 feet or less both depending on the natural underground water-table level (this will control the population explosion and keep population at the right level/sq km. Also this will prevent an already worldwide hazardous phenomenon called 'the sick building effect' which is because of zero sunlight penetration on the ground, which leads to death due to cancer, kidney failure, TB, chronic respiratory disorders amongst others. Also this will prevent an already worldwide catastrophe i.e. flooding that happens because higher FSI and taller buildings lead to larger underground foundations of those buildings which leads to less space for water both in the rocky aquifers and the soil which leads to a catastrophic rise in the water-table which leads to flooding. Also this will prevent tripling or quadrupling of electricity bills which happens because tall buildings lead to almost no daylight penetration on the ground or inside the houses or offices which leads to usage of electricity throughout the day for light and air-conditioning which leads to multiple times higher bills. ) . The island (seperated by the Ulhas river) must be connected to its surrounding cities that are Navi Mumbai, Shreesthaan (Thane), Vasai-Virar by bridges across the river ( bridges already existing and also Trans Harbour Link across Ulhas river's brack waters near Panvel creek) and further by roads (roads already existing) and metros including 'water metros' (not existing) for e.g. as in Surat and Kerala and 'bus metros' (not existing) and 'train metros' (not existing) within Mumbai and to Shreesthaan (Thane), Kalyan-Dombivli, Navi Mumbai, Panvel, Badlapur, Ambernath, Vasai-Virar. Not by making insane coastal roads (including bridges) in the ocean and on the beaches destroying all the open spaces (beaches) and beautiful (happiness-giving) views (the sea, the horizon, the sky, the sunset) and the underwater flora and fauna (including planktons that light up the sea at night) forming the entire seaface. For e.g. as at the Sabarmati River Front and the Ghats of Ganga and Sharayu river. The Worli Seaface is gone. Completely desecrated. There must not be any bridge in the ocean (from Bandra to Versova: Stop the desecration of Juhu Seaface with immediate effect. Save Juhu Seaface a 7 km long seaface, which is the most visited beach in Sindhusthaan, with immediate effect ) or on the beaches or shore areas or hills/mountains, to obstruct and hinder beautiful views from the beaches or from anywhere inland. There must be unobstructed, unhindered views,as there are now, (except the Bandra-Worli Sea Link plus a new addition now the coastal road which makes ugly the view from Bandra, Mahim, Worli). Also from such beautiful places as beaches, seashores and others, the skyscrapers and/or high-rise buildings must not be visible. Mumbai is the number 1 tourist (local i.e. from the city, from the state, national, international) destination in Sindhusthaan because of its hills including Andheri (Andhara Giri or Dongar which is 200 feet tall, monolithic, mesozoic era, 6.6 crore years old, the only one inside a city in the whole world, one of the only two anywhere in the whole world, heritage site ), 6 rivers (Ulhas river which forms the Shreesthaan (Thane) creek and the Vasai creek to form the Shatshasti island, Mahim river i.e. the so-called mithi river, the Oshiwara river, the Shreesthaan (Thane)/Mulund river, the Dahisar river, the Poisar river), streams+ tributaries+ rivulets (nalas) all over the city, 19 beaches, 104 sq km National park (the only one inside a city in the whole world. Plus a sister 'The Tungareshwar National Wildlife Sanctuary' right across the Ulhas river in the Shreesthaan (Thane) district. The bungalows built at Yeoor Hills, the Tikkuji Ni Wadi, the roads across the forests to go from one side to the other must be taken out with immediate effect. Only the access roads for the adivasis i.e. the original forest dwellers to their padas i.e. small villages must be allowed strictly.), Shreesthaan (Thane) creek National wildlife sanctuary, Aarey (including forests which the Modi/Fadnavis gov converted into a development zone from a no-development zone to build the metro 3 car shed by passing a legislation i.e. law after the courts and the National Green Tribunal stopped their work, Chhota Kashmir garden+lake, film city's lake. But all business and infrastructural activities like Film City, Aarey Mik Colony, Metro car shed+depot, 5 star hotel Renaissance or Westin, Royal Palms must be taken out with immediate effect), mangrove forests (saplings planted, that too in some other place, cannot compensate for uprooted trees grown up over 15 to 50 years or more and for destroying the natural biodiversity and it's habitat at the present location), wetlands (including 'khaadis' and mangroves along the nalas), natural and heritage man-made saltpans, more than 88 lakes, 150 ancient caves, more than 950 gardens and parks of Mumbai, playgrounds (maidans), sports complexes, swimming pools, recreation clubs, stadiums, beaches of Vasai-Virar, Palghar and Raigad amongst other tourist attractions. The value of Mumbai's natural resources of aesthetic concern and/or man-made tourist attractions must be conserved by not making man-made structures (including skyscrapers, high-rise buildings, transportation infrastructure ) near it or visible from its location. People of Maharashtra must go to court and also do an andolan against the gov (Modi gov, Gadkari gov, Fadnavis gov, Shinde gov or Thackeray gov or Gandhi gov or Pawar gov or Kejriwal gov or Akhilesh gov or Mamata gov or any gov) and/or any authority (Ashwini Bhide authority whose husband left his job of an IAS officer and became a first generation prolific entrepreneur) or any builder (Ambani or Adani or Hiranandani or LT or anybody) that plans and permits such purposeful desecration of natural beauty and, with immediate effect, get a permanent ban on desecration of and a permanent law for protection of natural resources of aesthetic concern i.e. natural beauty of our heritage state Maharashtra.

Please do not go for holidays in Goa. We went there in 2024 Full holiday was spoiled by taxi drivers and restaurant Taxi drivers were very very rude and 3 times ditched us. We went to beach and round trip was fixed. But when we reached there he said give full amount... Or I will not wait. We gave him 80%.....and still he didn't wait All 4 days trip was same Restaurants also charged so high amount for dishes and the portion size was small. Better go to Thailand or bali Or Kerala Or lakshyadeep Don't go to Goa if you want to enjoy the trip

Has anyone spoken abt this oddity, 15 to 20 years back Goa was so good to travel to, it had a very high reputation, suddenly in past 15-20 years wht happened? It's because now Goa is filled with people who have come from ur states they do dadaghari openly & they are ultra curropt & got full political backing because of their vote & tbeir haftas greedy mlas of Goa thrive on. Fellows from bihar, UP, Jharkand, Delhi, Karnatak etc come to Goa & not the decent people, the most cunning & conniving fellows are here in Goa.

Just few months, last year a criminal who was wanted from another state of India took shelter in Goa "peacefully" for a long duration without being stop or investigated. One of the many flaws of Goa. Also, many boat rides in North Goa are owned by kannads, who are very nice people when I've met them in Karnataka. But when they come to Goa, the curroption consumes their good nature & turns them into aggressive, conniving fellows who seek only to scam tourists. There's a sense of lawlessness in these people's minds. They literally know they do something wrong & the Goa gov. with it's police will support & protect them. AS a Native Goan I can say We Goans ourselves are fed up of these fellow who come & settled in Goa & those traitor Goa MLAs who support them along with the Goa police.

Police and RTO keep targetting tourists with hidden checkpoints. We had a terrible experience of a policeman stopping our car with Karnataka licence plate for some perceived rule break, and he was unnecessarily harsh when we asked him what rule did we break. Apparently, our car touched the yellow line in the center of the road! We didn't overtake, we had just stepped on the yellow line. We had to pay 1500 to get out, as he was threatening to make it a big deal, seizing the vehicle, court case etc. Pure harassment because we were outsiders to the state. Another issue we heard was the bike/scooter rentals. The RTO/police stop the riders asking for vehicle insurance, even though they know it is a rental vehicle, and they should be checking with the vendors renting. Again the riders have to pay a fine or bribe to get out. Vendors wash their hands off. Looks like it is a nexus between the vendors and RTO/police.

True. But odds of that happening any time soon is slim to none. What India lacks is civic sense among the populace. All have the mentality that, "Someone else will clean it up, so its ok to throw trash everywhere". Following the traffic rules is also one of them. Constant honking of vehicles, even if stuck at a red light, thus noise pollution. The staring is also a problem. Many people dont see many foreigers around so they stare at them, out of curiousity. Right when you exit te airport or a railway station, you will be surrounded by cabbies, all will try to overcharge you to take you to your destination. These are the stuff where we cant give any excuses sadly. Air pollution is quite high. But its just that you cannot expect it to go down so soon, as its still a developing country heavily reliant on fossil fuel to meet energy needs. So nothing can be done in that regard. Just needs some time.

Read the comments. Sad but true. I first visited Goa in 1992. It was an amazing experience. My last visit was in 2018. That visit was a horrible experience. Overcrowded, filthy beaches. Taxis and hotels were very expensive. In short it was poor value for money. I just returned from Vietnam. My trip was great. Loved it. Goa is no more a tourist destination anymore.

Public transportation is cheap, A Shuttle airconditioned bus is Rs 50 from Panjim to Margao, but Taxi prices are way too high. Took a rickshaw in Mumbai from Borivali to Airport Rs. 200. Same trip in Goa would be Rs. 600. By the way I am a Goan living in the US.

Just an example of Goa's taxi mafia, my friend Goan himself working there in pharma company had his manager visit their office in Goa, basically official visit for a week. He was booked into a hotel which was enroute my friend's office and home. Since it was official visit, on the first day my friend drove to the hotel, picked up his manager and then dropped him back in the evening. Taxi mafia outside the hotel saw this. When he went Next morning again to the hotel, these taxi mafia gheraoed my friend and threatened him of dire consequences if he came up again and said, his manager should hire their taxi only. My friend explained he was not another taxi driver and was a colleague but no use. All they said, if you need your car and yourself safe, don't show up here again. Finally that manager was forced to hire taxi there. This incident was about 7-8 years back. I am glad that tourists have started shunning this overhyped place.

In GOA, On 31st Dec 2024, 13 Locals attacked 8 Tourists with Sticks. 1 Tourist died. Tourists questioned extra charges that restaurant added on the handwritten paper bill. The Handwritten Paper Bill didn't have details but the bill amount was high. When Tourists questioned restaurant, Staff and Few locals a total of 13 People attacked 8 Tourists. There are few girls in the Tourists, One Guy from tourists died in this Attack. GOA is not worth anymore, Never Go To GOA as Tourist Destination. GOA Locals loot your purse, You will be beaten if you question them.

I Just returned from a week long holiday in Sri Lanka. Squeaky clean city roads, gardens, spectacular beaches, chic cafes, alluring architectural sites, Serene Buddhist temples. And above everything friendly helpful people who respect their tourists. No heckling for money, no pervert leeches oggling at women, making sleazy remarks! I was there recently with my girlfriend, had 3 incidences where the locals showed aggression for no reasons. Once I was crossing the road in a traffic jam and this guy hit my car aggressively with his hand, I thought a vehicle hit me, and when i opened the window and checked, he was shouting at my for crossing the road from there but he was also crossing it from there. Then in fuel station, I asked for the petrol of 2k but he filled it for 1k and when I confronted, he stated fighting and became too aggressive. Both time I felt like if I would have also gotten aggressive, the fight would have been physical. If you don’t want tourists, you can’t respect them, they will not come, rest in peace. And those 35% people who are employed in the tourism industry should also rest in peace.

I've been to Goa twice, in 2016 and in 2019. It was such a great vibrant clean place with so many things to do and such beautiful places to visit. But, it was quite apparent that this state is mafia run, when it cost us Rs.2200 from Thivim to Calangute. Food was more expensive than Mumbai. Activa for 3 days cost us Rs. 1500. Having visited Goa frequently between 1969 and now, as a private tourist and also as a corporate person attending conferences and conventions, I have been a witness to the dramatic changes that have happened there. Some good and many not good at all. Apart from the reasons for Goa's decline mentioned in the video, the other negative factors are overall shabbiness, 4:25 dirty beaches with ugly shacks, piles of garbage everywhere, broken roads and very high, abrasive local population. There is no comparison with Macau, a former Portugese enclave, in infrastructure, sophistication & wealth creation. Chinese have built on what they inherited and we have run into ground what once was a serene paradise. We have killed the goose that hitherto layed golden eggs.

I am Goan. The first point of contact for any Tourist is the Taxi, when they land in Goa by flight. Taxi owners think it's their birthright to overcharge the customer, even a local is not given any discount. So your first experience is a bad one, then the hotels, Rent a cab, Restaurant overcharge you and the experience for a tourist worsens. We need to change all this. Thailand is No 1 in hospitality coz they won't cheat you. We have to reinvent ourselves. That being said, I feel prices will be hiked next year by these countries too.

I went to Goa recently. For 2 people over 5 nights it has costed us 85,000. It was 8000 a night in Amritara (actual worth about 5k) and each food dish (if sea food or non veg) cost is almost 700 to 1200. After we returned we realised we could have gone out of India itself for this budget. The taxis were a ripoff charging 4000 to 6000 for a 30km drive. And the autos too. The only thing cheap is alcohol and we had only Roku gin which was about 4K in Goa vs 7 or 8k in Bangalore And more than the money itself I felt a sense of inherent hate for fellow Indians from the locals, like they hate you but like goras. The Radisson hotel has a sea facing restaurant on mandrem beach, they will allow goras to sit in their shack but not Indians. And we literally saw a middle age uncle chase down 2 rental bikes and beat the boys for as much as coming close to his bike or cutting him off etc. even the local restaurants have started charging as much as 300 for an “authentic” Goan thali. We went by some Instagram post and visited one such restaurant and the thali was a rip off one paper thin slice of fish fry, tomato and turmeric flavour water and rice.

Filipino here. We had this same problem 10 years ago in Boracay island (one of the top beach destinations in our country). The local government embarked on a 1 year sustainable tourism plan. The first, and most important lesson to be thought is to the local peoples, merchants and transportations. They where thought that “preserving” the island and its general welcoming nature is essential for THEIR OWN livelihoods; that if they want their children to stay and/ or sustain work in the island; everybody MUST do his/ her part; however small that may be. In the past 10 years; the pricing improved… the locals learned English (even those out of school) and they controlled the prices! Thank you Palki for addressing Goa issue. Besides above mentioned issues there are lot more which has contributed to Goa's downfall. 1. Land mafia has killed tourism completely. Hills, forests, scenic beauty near coastal belt has been destroyed to make way for Hotel projects. 2. No Check on fake liquors and cashew nuts and unhygienic food outlets. 3.Tourists are looted by Clubs, Spa's , Tatoo shops, water sports operating illegally by outside state people with the Blessings of some greedy people. Touts and scammers working for this people everywhere. Police and concern authorities has no control on this people who loot tourist, who in turn think that they are goans. This is reason why there are so many hate comments from people. Too much greed, unplanned development, extorting money have caused double impact on tourism. Sad part is current government, authorities and their administration don't even acknowledge the decline in tourist, they will just laugh, dust away the issue saying All is well.

Goa's entire appeal was the offer of an Indo-Latin culture, free flowing alcohol, chilled locals, beautiful beaches and quiet rural villages. But the locals got greedy, they scammed other locals who weren't greedy but were too trusting. Many Goans, especially Catholics who made up the unique culture, left in droves to the West, as Hindutva and Islamic idealogies started creeping into the state. Corruption became endemic. Tourism stopped actually benefiting the locals but became a money making machine for the top elite, who didn't care who was on the ground, as long as the money was flowing in. Covid and the Russian and Israeli wars turned out to be the final blow to Goa. Covid destroyed economies. The Russian and Israeli tourists, who were making Goa their go to destination for 2 decades, got mired in full time wars and their numbers dropped. Domestic tourists came for the booze and then treated Goa the same way they treat the rest of India - a giant dung heap. Welcome to the current state of Goa.

I visited Goa in 23 I would NEVER go back. I stayed in a hotel -good service and food. However just outside the hotel the usual filth/pollution as per normal in India. Although the beaches were mainly clean the surrounding areas were like rubbish dumps. If you stay in the hotel compound it’s fine-if you venture out face the reality of India There are many videos of how wonderful India is,but very few about the actual reality- Pollution Mountains of filth at every corner Corruption Fraud Crazy traffic Limited law and order Citizens that don’t care As a foreigner it is easy for me to criticise but at some point Indians need to accept the facts and it is for them to resolve the issues.

We are actually happy with the situation. If you think it will affect us then you are deluded, we don't rely on tourism, its the non goans with businesses in goa who do, so it will be the non goans who will suffer not the goans. Which is good as they will finally leave Goa for good which is what goans wanted all along. Moreover goans get their money through remittances sent by relatives working abroad especially Europe thanks to Portuguese passports. So we are good. We don't need you at all but maybe your non goan brothers might do so.

As a Indian, I have experienced the horror of police giri and taxi mafia of Goa. People were too greedy, I didn't have a great experience. This year i traveled to Digha Beach, West Bengal with all my friends. I was so amazing and beautiful, the prices were 3x lower and service was top notch ❤ Indians and foreigners should explore all the options before booking.

My recent visit to Goa gave me a new meaning to unforgettable experience. Local transportation is not only bad due to the taxi mafia with a ban on Uber and Ola services, the mini-bus I took in Madgoan was extorting from tourists 3 to 6 times the normal fare charged to locals. On protesting, the conductor and bouncer duo threatened and got physical. I swore never to visit Goa again.

We visited Goa in August 2024 and returned to Delhi after 5 days, but the trip was disappointing. Here’s why: 1. High airfare: The ticket prices were exorbitant. 2. Poor resort experience: The resort staff misbehaved with one of my family members. Additionally, the cost of the resort was too high for the limited facilities provided. 3. Expensive cab services: The charges for local transport were unreasonably high. 4. Seafood disappointment: We planned to enjoy seafood, but despite trying multiple restaurants, the food tasted worse than roadside stalls. 5. Beach experience: The beaches were unclean, making them feel more like sewers than scenic spots. Overall, we spent around ₹3 lakh for this trip (for two couples), and it was completely not worth it. I will never visit Goa again.

these prices are outdated. we (group of two) had to pay 800 rs for taxi just for 4 KM Vagator to Calangute. 700 Rs for an Auto (Calangute to Thivim). Taxi 1500 from Madgaon to Calangute.......... that's too in the off-season (July 2024)
