Resale value for Hybrids is very low and cost of repairs is high once the warranty period is over. Unless the govt. gives considerable incentive upfront to purchase them, why would anyone purchase them over diesel or cng cars? Pure Hybrids could be a game changer for the taxi segment as they ply mostly in crowded cities and savings on fuel will be considerable while reducing emissions at the same time while not having range anxiety of electrics.

Reason why BJP shunned Tesla was because the future belongs to Hybrids and Hydrogen engines. Hydrogen engine technology is still being tested but Hybrid tech is in its 2nd stage where it'll be made more efficient in coming decades until it reaches its peak point. Next challenge for countries like Bharat would be to develop self driven cars that can run in a messy Pune kind of traffic too and for that India will first have to find ways to engage AI on top of its old and new vehicles to force public to obey 'basic' traffic rules. The other day I was imagining a hardware that can be fitted in older vehicles (like a retro fitted CNG lot these days) that utilises AI driven satellite navigation, on ground radars based cameras & self regulate the parking, maneuvering, driving speed and overall drivability of all traffic on road and the one in Parking lots (including the unofficially parked vehicles which is a big problem in places like Paschim Vihar). This dream of mine requires Quantum Computers hooked to super penetrative 5G networks with hoard of satellites above and network of cameras like China has created in its cities.

I would not recommend buying a new car for an average-income Indian. First, the interest rates are quite high and one has to pay a high amount to buy a new car. Secondly, the IDV declared by the insurance companies each following year makes the car selling a nightmare. What you are saying is a perfect truth 100% but who cares? Majority of people want show off so big SUV's which are expensive to buy and run and maintain too. Most of our cities need small cars like Maruti 800, Hyundai Santro type which may be less expensive to own and run and occupy less space.
