it was NOT cleaner interface of gmail ... it was 5MB mailbox vs 1gb/1024mb mailbox gMail at launch offered which increased to 15gb! .... gMail also allowed attachment size of 25mb i.e. just an attachment 5 times the size of total hotmail mailbox .... u could just choke the hotmail account with 1 gmail email ... live previews of attachments without downloading i also i must say should be disregarded including directly playing of video and video file without downloading. Even if u wanted more than 25MB attachment u can just upload GBs of file to ur gDrive and put it link in outgoing email as attachment... as of today unllike even online free excel in hotmail/outlook the google-sheets scripting is freely giving outside/web data scripting too!

The backbone of success behind Gmail is the single sign on functionality. One can literally use the Google Account (Gmail) to sign in to any service. Musk and X can never replace it. He not even close to Meta even let alone the Google account (Gmail).

Which then sends it to this server to check who all are eligible for this ads and so it shows them it. They don't hand out data to anyone. The method they do this by is called cookies.
