Syria: Rebel Leader Al-Jolani Reacts to Russian Presence, Says Chose Not to Attack its Bases
Syrian Rebel Leader Abu Mohammad al-Jolani Addressed Russian presence in Syria after the ouster of President Bashar Al Asaad. Jolani said rebels could have targeted Russian bases in Syria but chose not to. He urged Jolani to reconsider ties with the new regime. Moscow shared close ties with ousted Syrian leader Assad. Moscow operated two bases in Syria, however as per reports, Russia is not leaving those bases. However, Russia has begun withdrawing from the frontlines in northern Syria, as per reports. Syria's new leader said he is not interested in new conflicts amid a barrage of Israeli strikes in the country. Jolani said Syria is "too exhausted" for a confrontation with Israel.

Attacking Russian bases would have been a terrible idea, and Turkey certainly wouldn’t have backed that move anyway. It’s one thing facing Assad’s forces, but an entirely different thing dealing with a state actor like Russia, which has demonstrated that it doesn’t think twice about escalating when its interests are threatened.
