LIVE: Devotees Illuminate the Indian City of Ayodhya with Over 2 Million Lamps on the Eve of Diwali
In India, as devotees gear up to celebrate Diwali, the Ram Temple in Ayodhya is all decked up for Deepotsav today. This will be the first Deepotsav celebration in Ayodhya after the consecration ceremony of the Ram Temple, held in January this year and the BJP-led Uttar Pradesh government plans to illuminate the city with over 2 million earthern lamps in a bid to create a new world record. Along with UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, about 1,100 people will perform a “special aarti” on the banks of the river Saryu. For Deepotsav, there will be performances by artistes from six countries - Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, and Indonesia - along with a Ram Leela presentation from Uttarakhand. Stringent security measures are in place for the festivities.
