Once at a lake in California I ran into some fishermen that showed me a 5 lb crappie they caught. It was huge, and at least on the scale they had, it said exactly 5 lbs. About an hour later a ranger walked up and checked my fish and license. Then I told him about the 5 lb crappie. He said “That would be a state record!”. I ran back to the shoreline to tell those guys - but they had already filleted it! 😩
