I don't know why everyone is complaining so much, yes I know the line wasn't through the line guide but I think that using mono was a good idea because braid is hard to get out of a backlash and it's pricy, and baitcasters aren't exactly that easy to use when you first get them.

But I'd rather spend the money on a system that works and I get instant gratification and joy using. I'll stick to spinning reels

lol. i have many nice spinning reels, but since i tried bait casting i barely touch my spinners. with bait casters you need smooth cast with out hiccups, and set them up properly. fyi the shimano dc reels take a lot of the set up out of it. i set it once and never have to touch it for the rest of the season.

14fishing actually monofilament line is easier to start out with because if you get a backlash/Birds Nest then it’s way easier to get it out. Nice setup. This video is making me want to jump in a plane, fly to the US, go straight to Cabelas... and spend the weekend in the store. Best part is that you caught a fish on your first day with the rod. 👍

No hard feelings man, I also used only spinning rods and reels for years then leaped over to bait casters. The learning curve is real with them, I actually bird nested mine so bad in the process of learning it that I had to re spool the entire thing "After letting it sit in the garage for about a year" I actually decided to just spool it with braid, I just thought in my head "Well this is the most difficult to use in a bait caster so If I get this down I'll be done with it" That's what ended up working for me, I learned with a 40lb braid which turned out to be easier to remove bird nest from, and I haven't had problems casting since.

Yes, braid are much easier to use with a baitcaster. Never use nylon

I started with a Shakespeare catch more bass combo from academy(39.99) combo and it was spooled already with 10 pound mono. Dude i learned how to use a bait caster with that and by the time i bought an Abu Garcia reel i couldn`t get a bird nest even if i wanted to. Is better to learn the hard way and by the time you get an expensive set up you`ll get to be really good at it. Nice vid by the way.

Mistakes were made (line guide), lessons were learned and fun was had. I'd say that was a pretty successful day of fishing and despite knowing there would be criticism you posted the video. I don't know why people feel the need to smack talk what someone else does but it happens. It's awesome to see younger folks doing stuff that doesn't involve a computer and you seem like a good guy, it's been almost 4 years and I'm sure you've mastered the baitcasting reel by now but don't let other peoples opinion bother you.
