@@kayakcountry cool, if you ever do it. The video would be fun. I've heard of 2 guys who did it from Prestwick. I seem to remember it took around 7 hours . It was a charity paddle

I have travelled by kayak around the Clyde fjord over a ten week period. The crossing from Bute to Arran can be difficult. There are four different tidal streams plus if there's wind, you'll have waves too. Tidal streams have to be calculated for. see Admiralty Chart Tidal Streams for Firth of Clyde and Approaches. Tide tables from www.tidetimes.org.uk for Greenock. Distance is always further than you think. Imray Chart for Firth of Clyde also necessary. My home port is Largs and I paddle around 5kn/hour, so calculate my distances from that and speed of tides. Many parts of the coast of the fjord are inaccessible and the Imray charts allow you to see those places where one can beach. I have spent two years researching the health and welfare of the fjord and am due to start testing samples of water, aquatic life, sea weed etc next year. Another necessary table is the time tables of the various ferries you will encounter around the fjord.

How relaxing!! How far is it from Millport to little Cumbrae? Possible on a stand up paddle board?

1 km, can be a bit tidal, better in a sea kayak, looks less silly too (sorry!)
