Now we know why the fisherman that uses a rod and reel is being restricted. It is sad to see this amount of fish being removed this way and explains why our eastern cape hardly ever sees shoals of yellowtail any more.

When I asked the foreman how often they get a catch this big, he said about once every 3 years or longer. I will say that most times I see them with very small catches or nothing at all. One time, they scooped up a school of jellyfish, and put them all back in the water by hand.

And this fish feeds many mouths good protein at way less of cost to the less fortunate poorer communities rather rip the big Com boats really ravishing the waters

Man what kaka , leave the locals alone , direct your path at the kaka government instead

Actually not so. UCT did a study on this. It's the big trawlers that result in lack of shoals in eastern cape. This is actually an ecofriendly, sustainable way of fishing.

Is this sustainable?
@TigerMeadows6 жыл бұрын
Well I guess it depends on what you consider to be sustainable. Personally I'd like to see much more livelier seas and oceans with much more fish in them. So to me this isn't sustainable.
@bradparker61566 жыл бұрын
Guess it depends on how often such events occur. They were lucky on 2 consecutive days. From a rock&surf angler who hardly catches anything, but returns most of catch to the sea so as to limit own impact on the dwindling stocks, I hope they saw no more for a reasonable time.
@ivanmynhardt Жыл бұрын
well its way more sustainable than the corporate companies who supply you fish from supermarkets.

Yes it has been done for hundreds of years, and they made sure they encouraged the growth of fish for next year's catch and the year after etc. The Japanese and Chinese trawlers, with their mechanical.sucking machines that swallow everything including tiny fish.....they have destroyed SA fishing.
@annexton3795 Жыл бұрын
Absolutely 100% sustainable. These fishermen and their ancestors have been fishing like this for more than a century. I see here they're using a radio. Before the men on the lookout at the top of the mountain communicated with a whistle.

These people just don't know how to handle this fish period
@marcb62905 жыл бұрын
Such ignorance. Throwing those huge hamachi in the hot sand. And throwing um period destroys the meat. Yellowtail should also be bled. One of the best tasting fish in the world.

Actually a traditional way of fishing which is sustainable. Quite unlike big trawlers

This is atrocious and takes all the fish from the sustainable fisherman like spearfishing and anglers u ruin the season by catching the fish before they can come around the mountain to spawn u poes
