It all starts with the basics. Keep your ponds clean, feed your fish well, keep intruders away, observe water quality - and the rest will be easy. Keep this in mind

Obviously you know what you are doing. Your fish are thriving and its a smart irrigation system you have. What about some kind of waterfall or natural filtration. Is that possible? My small pond has 2 electric pump/filters generating 2 mini waterfalls. You can also simulate flowing water and breed river fish. Then again im not trying to ignorantly force European solutions on Kenyans living in a different climate. Just telling you filtering the water makes fish taste better and simulating river flow is possible for breeding.

If you keep mud from making the water cloudy/brown, your fish will grow faster since more light grows more algae or plants.

For the earthen ponds, we don't concrete the the floor. But the type of soil should not allow for a lot of water loss through seepage.

Excuse me, in this video Willy Munala told us about the conditions , we should not feed our fishes. Some facts are should be accepted but some are not . Laterally to say, I just want to know why we should not feed our fishes in those conditions. If it is convenient for you , please explain about it. Thank you very much for your support and help .......
@wilsonmunalamathia40615 жыл бұрын
Kyaw Nyein, these facts are based on science and research. Ignoring them will be to your disadvantage. Here are the reasons why you should not feed your fish under the FIVE conditions mentioned in the Video: 1. WHEN IT IS RAINING Fish don't come to the surface when it is raining. They prefer the warm water below the surface. When you give feed during this time, the fish will not be able to come to the surface to eat. Again the pellets will be broken down faster due to the action of the rain drops - leading to wastage. 2. WHEN IT IS VERY GLOOMY WITH HEAVY CLOUD COVER Without sunlight, photosynthesis will not take place inside the water. Plankton will not be able to produce enough dissolved oxygen for the fish to 'breath' and carry out other metabolic activities (including digesting the food you would have given them). That is why we prefer to feed at around 9am when the Sun is up. 3. VERY EARLY IN THE MORNING At night both plants/plankton and fish use oxygen (there is no photosynthesis to replenish it). Oxygen levels are lowest during early morning. Feeding the fish at this time will stress them since digestion requires oxygen. Again fish are cold blooded. They only become active when it is warm. (Same reason why lizards cannot run very fast after a very cold night). Pond water is normally very cold in the morning. 4. WHEN IT IS VERY COLD See explanation above. 5. WHEN IT IS DARK Many species of fish feed by sight. When it is dark, they may not see the feed....meaning that the feed will go to waste. Again feeding time is when you can monitor your fish behaviour and see whether they have injuries, or are sick. You can only do this when there is enough light - NOT IN DARKNESS.

For a single pond that will accommodate that number of fish, you will need at least 1 ha (approx. 3 acres) of land in a relatively flat area and a lot of water to fill it. That is the starting point.

If you have more species of animals and plants you have a better system. It cost you less money, has greater resilience, more options for income, and less money for feed. Grow up!! It's about more not less.
