That bolbitis is beautiful. Great looking plecos and cory. Thanks for the black worm tip. I was not away they can be mixed with leeches.
@TMAquatics4 жыл бұрын
Some shops are better than others. I’ve tossed away entire bags of black worms because they had too many leeches and wasn’t worth my time. I’ve learned which shops have cleaner worms. 👍

It’s working so you can’t argue with success. I know many very successful and experienced pleco breeders that keep all their breeders in bare bottom tanks.

Oh, now I know how a friend's tanks, who happens to feed his fish blackworms, got infested with leeches. Positive: those cory duplicareus are gorgeous.

Great tour as always. I have two questions. Would you consider adding current with power heads or wave makers to encourage non breeding plecos to breed? Second question, what are you feeding your L260’s adults and fry? Thanks Tom!
@TMAquatics4 жыл бұрын
Depends Ron. Some plecos like more current than others, but most appreciate the added water flow. Their tank mates, maybe not so much. The river systems plecos come from can be quite different. One thing you need to be mindful of is impellers and small plecos do not make good tank mates. A friend lost several zebra pleco fry by them swimming into the wave maker and getting chopped. Expensive lesson. I do have circulation pumps in some of my tanks, but I make sure the fish is larger than the opening to the impeller. I don’t even chance it with my L046 and only use HOB’s for the extra water current.
@justinviveiros73754 жыл бұрын
About what size pleco hides do you use?
@kurtr124 жыл бұрын
Tom I have a spawn if leopard frogs. When do you start feeding the fry? Before the egg sack is completely gone?
@TMAquatics4 жыл бұрын
Sorry I’m so late to reply. Keep a piece of seasoned driftwood in the breeder box with them. I also place a catappa leaf in the breeder box as well. They form biofilm and break down quick. The L134 fry can start to graze on the biofilm before their yolk sac is 100% absorbed. It’s believed this aids in better development of the digestive track. A great commercial food to start L134 fry on is the Ebo Aquaristik Grow Paste and the Ebo Spirulina Paste. Avoid feeding live baby brine until they put on some size.
@Rjmjojo4 жыл бұрын
Nice video.Do bare bottom tanks cause corys to lose their barbells because of biofilm .Also how would you maintain sandy tank with corys in it.Do you feel corys are happier in sandy tanks compared to tanks with full soil substrate like amazonia ADA.Thanks
@TMAquatics4 жыл бұрын
I’ve never seen corys lose barbells when kept in BB tanks. Sand 100% of the time. However, active soils like ADA aren’t bad compared to other substrates like eco-complete.
@paul442354 жыл бұрын
What substrate is in the L494 tank? I love the look of all your tanks!
@TMAquatics4 жыл бұрын
White play sand mixed with a very small (and smooth) pea gravel. When I set up the tank I didn’t have enough of either to fill it, so I mixed them together. I like it. 👍
@eddyortiz81104 жыл бұрын
Oh I can't wait to see the Corydoras tank setup? Are you going to change the substrate to sand I know silly question 🤣 the breeder box looks so cool with all the juvi's!💜🌿🌿😊👍
@TMAquatics4 жыл бұрын
The tank has a 50/50 mix of sand and very small (and smooth) pea gravel. I might add more sand though. We’ll see. Thanks Eddie 👍

Hey Tom just wondering if you have any videos on the PH of your L134 tanks or how you maintain your PH values while mixing your RO with I assume your tap water.
@TMAquatics4 жыл бұрын
I don’t have a video like that. I use straight RO and mix a little tap water to raise my kH to 1-2. This buffers the water enough to prevent the pH from crashing.
@nwcanuck50694 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply Tom, just wondering what your average PH and temp is for your breeding L134's. Cheers!

We have a large laundry room on the main level. Haven’t used the extra set in years, plus the washer doesn’t even work. We plan to replace with a front loader some day. 🤣

I have L 134 my male ate them all. This time I was lucky to take them out and put into Ziss egg tumbler but after 5 days only 1 egg hatch and still I have 29 egg inside ziss egg tumbler. I was thinking may be Ziss egg tumbler is not best for hatching pleco eggs.

Ive had great success with the Ziss tumbler. What happened to the other 29?

Hi Tim Quick question for you. I have a pair of baby bristlenose plecos in my shrimp tank. For how long you will recommend they will share the same tank? Is being about a month since they are together. And part b of the question how small did you recommend a tank for those plecos?
@TMAquatics4 жыл бұрын
The BN Plecos shouldn’t bother your shrimp. Without knowing what size tank they’re in, it’s hard to answer. You could get away with keeping a compatible pair in a 10 gal as long as you stay current with 2+ weekly water changes, have proper stocking and decent filtration. But I recommend 20 gal.
@vamosaltemacongabrielmende39654 жыл бұрын
TM Aquatics thanks for taking time to reply, the information is very valuable.

Lineage 8? Lineage 9?? Never heard of that; where did you learn about it? Great update - those worms never had a chance.
@TMAquatics4 жыл бұрын
There are 9 different lineages or family trees within the corydoras genus. Fish from the same lineage can cross breed, while fish from different lineages cannot. Similar to other species like my plecos. The Pekoltias would never cross breed with Hypancistrus, but two different Hypancistrus could cross breed.
@catfishcave3794 жыл бұрын
TM Aquatics It sounds like Corydoras is in need of a taxonomic revision... Edit: I found a link to the paper via corydorasworld.com Will have to do more reading...

What are the chances I could get a pair of L204 flash plecos to breed in a 29 gallon community tank?

Don’t see why you couldn’t as long as the water is clean and you provide them quality food and some wood to rasp on.

Why are L264 your least favorite? I have a group of 6 L264s that I hope will breed soon. They grow so slow. Have you had luck with them breeding? Love the channel, keep up the awesome work.

Because I like my Zebra plecos, Leopard Frog Plecos and Queen Arabesque more. The L264 are still in my top 10. Considering the hundreds of plecos, that’s not bad 😉👍
