It is not a wels but a related Wallagonia leerii or micropogon aka helicopter catfish. This one's nickname is Toothster. It lives in the 25K now.

What does the helicopter catfish consume???never seen him eat,,,,,

He ate first time last feeding, 2 days ago, one mackerel down! Praise the Lord! Before that, it hadn't eaten since Nov 2022, that is for half a year. I think B1 deficiency, although the switch to different feeder fish from his beloved herring and the cool season played a role too, but mostly the B1 lack, just barely on the cusp, so it didn't lose balance and didn't spin but just got so lethargic and had no appetite - the first signs of the vitamin B1 deficiency.... I have seen so much of that.

Oh no, yeah that hybrid got beat up. Is that the same one that happened to before?
@Fish-Story Жыл бұрын
It's not beating, it's biting to eat. It happened couple of times before years ago and probably to different hybrids, but could have been him too. I need to check in our hybrid thread on the MFK, it's easy, just need time.

Sorry if I missed it, trying to watch as I get ready for work, but do all the catfish eat the mackerel? Even the Walego?

Since he always took some pellets, he never fell to the B1 issues.

@Fish Story, a DIY Public Aquarium & Fish Rescue I guess I never thought about dealing with vitamin deficiency before you did some videos on it. Does it have to do with the lack of natural Light the same way humans deal with it or from multiple things, and ty for the time on replying

Food must be balanced and complete, which includes vitamins and minerals needed for an organism to live and stay healthy. Neither animal bodies nor humans manufacture B1 inhouse, so it must be supplied with food. Same goes for many other nutrients. Natural light helps people synthesize vitamin D inside their body. IDK about animals. But I've never heard of the D deficiency in fish. Most usually it is B1, C, or E. Thiaminase present in frozen cuisine kills B1 in the cusine and inside the live fish that consumed it, so B1 needs to be supplemented more than others if your pet feeds on frozen fish and crustaceans. Frozen is not a complete nutritional package, so sooner or later deficiencies sicken and kill pets.
