Whenever I come to Gulf Shores/Orange Beach with my family, I pick up a bag of Fishbites. I fish them the entire time we are there. I buy very little frozen shrimp or squid anymore.
@rick5078 Жыл бұрын
Looking at the way these baits are made, there is a big difference. while both are made with natural ingredients, fishbites has scent and taste infused in the entire product and will continue to release scent and taste as long as its on the hook. Fishgum on the other hand, according to the website, has a powder made from various baits (shrimp, crab, etc etc) applied to the outside of the bait. However the website is not clear on whether that powder is the only source of scent or if the gummy material is infused with scent as well. Would be interesting to put these to the test side by side. set up a bunch of rods and try out both fast and slow release fishbites on one set of rods, fishgum only on another set of rods, fishgum and slow release fishbites on another set of rods. all on the same beach, at the same time and cast at about the same distance into the ocean.
@boatingman11 Жыл бұрын
Unless he has changed his method, Fishgum is produced with the scent heavily infused throughout the entire bait, then the powder is applied to the outside of the bait to give it that instant *POW.*

I bought fishbites from their only store on Amazon for less then $5 a pack but had to pay $5 for shipping through USPS, so about $6.24 per pack when I bought 4. I've used fishbites for freshwater and saltwater works in both. I will have to give fishgum a try first time seeing it was here. I love the stuff for pier fishing, catch tons of species.

I was one of Tony’s first subscribers and have used his synthetic baits going back to when they were called Pomp chews.” I’ve gotten samples for many of his evolving formulas he has tried. I am a solid fan of FishGum even though most folks up here in NC. Last June I caught the two largest Pompano of my life and I’ve been fishing on NC beaches for 60 years. FishGum works far better than Fishbites in my experience. I do like the bloodworm Fishbites since I don’t think Tony included that in his scent extracts. The two Pompano were both right at 4lbs. You never see them that big up here. Thanks for doing your comparison!

I only use free natural baits or Fishbites. I used to use Shrimp, but it is too expensive these days and difficult to store. Fishbites lasts a long time in the pkg. I've used shrimp flavored Fishbites that were a year old and had excellent success fishing for Pompano. Never tried Fishgum, can't find it here in NE Florida. The big drawback to Fishgum is that it isn't available at retailers nationally like Fishbites. Buying online is easy, but shipping costs are too high these days to make it a viable option. Buying huge amounts to get free shipping doesn't make sense. Walmart unfortunately is the only national retailer that has free shipping, good pricing and good return policies should you get product that is past it's "use buy" date. These type baits are great, they last on the hook, they are cost effective, and easily obtained. I support!
@TheCrunchbird Жыл бұрын
Hi from NE Florida. I have tried fish bites and it never worked too well for me. It's also a real pain in the ass to get the stuff back off the hook due to the mesh material inside it. Fishgum however has produced extremely well for me. A few weeks back I had the living hell scared out of me. I was fishing on Amelia Island using a shrimp and some fishgum on each of the two hooks on my pompano rig. After catching two pompano and two whiting the rod bent double and line screamed out from the reel. It was a 3 1/2 foot plus bonnet shark. I was only using twelve pound line so it took me a half hour to land it. By that time I had about fifteen onlookers. As I released that shark it dawned on me that I vastly preferred fish gum to fish bites. .

Fishgum works best for me here in NE Florida. I usually fish Amelia Island. My favorite method is to put a shrimp on the hook followed by a piece of fishgum. The fishgum holds the shrimp on the hook and if the shrimp gets pulled off by a crab or falls off during a cast then there is always some bait on the hook. I have tried fish bites but it never seemed to work for me. Must be those stuck up Florida fish!
