They got me into the show in Vegas when i was 16 cause the bouncer wouldnt let me in and i found them in the parking lot talking to each other by a car, i told them the bouncer wouldnt let me in cause i was too young, they said hold up, finished talking, then escorted me with them through the back entrance, stage entrance? to watch the show. Fishbone you rock!

Musicians appreciated and respected them (seemed to me). Although audiences enjoyed them, the band played "over their heads" a bit. The music could be very complex. Audiences never fully appreciated them. Definitely innovative, before their time, visionaries.

Racism, fear and the dumb ignorance of their labels played a part as well. I've always thought that Fishbone were unquestionably well-respected as musicians by other musicians, but in their time, they were also too "black and angry" for success. Musically, Fishbone should have been HUGE, but their label didn't know how to market them and to an extent, didn't want to bet on them. To a major label they were a bad financial risk despite their talent. I think their label thought America wasn't ready for a band of handsome and talented young back men who played unclassifiable music and railed against the system for its treatment of black people in the US. Also and almost to their detriment, their music was constantly evolving an growing in different directions for the better. But instead of being recognized (for lack of a better definition) as a Black Prog Rock/Funk Band, they were viewed as a unclassifiable RE "unmarketable" and on top if it all, a bagful of trouble for also being intensely political for criticizing the American government and the police for its treatment of young black men. At the time, the major labels already had their hands full with NWA and Public Enemy as political hard-chargers, so the last thing Columbia/Sony wanted to do was to put more money behind a band of young, angry black men whose sound they couldn't pin down. It sucks, but getting behind the Red Hot Chili Peppers was a lot easier. Fishbone were unfortunately a bleeding-edge band who were WAY ahead of their time.

Got passed around and placed back on stage, singing the whole time. First time I'd ever seen that in person. Also saw Thomas Dolby and Kid Creole & the Coconuts at Club Nu (two different shows. Kid Creole was a New Year's Eve show). And saw Faith No More open for the Red Hot Chili Peppers at The Washington Theater (also South Miami Beach). Fucking damn good times. @RedVynil9 жыл бұрын
Randall S Oh! Okay, thanks! Is he the one that did those "Pat" movies? I gave up on SNL when they started doing stupid skits that never had an ending. The public loved the characters, so they just made sure each one had a bit in each episode, no matter how stupid the skit for that character was. That was just before John Belushi died. The Coneheads was about the only one that was still any good, but, even with that, they'd get to a certain point and the skit would just stop dead and you're sitting there waiting for a concluding joke, and there WASN'T ONE!! Next thing you know, the audience is applauding wildly and the camera pulls back to show the whole set and they go to a commercial!! It's like being told a long joke and then never getting the punchline!
@randalls98229 жыл бұрын
No, Julia Sweeney was the "Pat" character ( no relation). I saw very little of the original cast. Terry was apart of the Jon Lovitz, Dennis Miller, Dana Carvey era. I just remember him as this was also when I started giving up on SNL (aside from the occasional live musical acts).
