thanx for your reply, i only found one fuse inside and it was not burned out so i guess it doesnt protect the insides, so do you have an idea what could need replaceing if it does not have a fuse to protect the insides from a shorted channel?? i might ask my dad to look at it as he is fairly knowlagable in electric stuff, heck i dont even know if the peice is worth 200-275

hello Dave, I have a crown amp and only the right side seems to work. i think i busted the left side because on not enough power to my speakers. is it repairable at a reasonable price?

@CoeCoema7 It is more likely your speaker is bad or the hybrid amplifier IC STK4191-II (ECG1316 equiv.)

i'm considering trying to repair an old amp where one channel has lost just about everything except a tiny bit of treble. i've ascertained that it's not the speaker as when i swap the left and right it works fine. i'm a complete novice when it comes to electronics but i don't want to spend a few hundred dollars if i don't have to - thanks for this video, first thing i'll do is check the fuses.

if my left speaker has a short in it (cuts my other speaker off when too loud), how would i go about repairing it? is there a fuse in side of it or would it be the wire. thanks and nice video!!

Hello, I have one quick question, I am doing up a fisher CA-38, it has record, radio and cassette as other parts, but no speakers, here lies the problem, What are the best (ie, loudest and/or clearest) speakers I can use on it? I haven't tested any speakers on it for fear of blowing something as it is in pristine condition except the cassette wont eject :) Thank you very much for your help!!!! would 900watts work if the ohms are correct :D

hey dave i gotta question for you, i have a sony ta-f700es from around 1989, i took it to the repair shop and the guy said it would be 200$-275$ to fix a short on one channel. does this sound way too much or is the a average price?

I have a Fisher synthesizer tuner/integrated amplifier model rs-883, I would like to fix the volume button because when I push the volume button, it just keeps going up and when I push the volume to go down it does them same thing. So can you please let me know why it does that?

Hello good sir, thank you for making this video, my grandpa gave me his Grundig EA-4400 Audio System, and im having trouble with the amp, when I opened it, the fuse was blown (1A 250V) so Ive changed it, now the amp powers up but no sound, I have followed your video, I have a STK 4171 II IC, the schematics are the same as the one on this video but I cant seem to figure out how to check if something is wrong with it, would you give a hint on what to look for? PS:The speakers were blown as well.TY

how funny I have 4 amps all opened up at the moment. My wikid one randomly with no warning died while on very low. when open I find Its blowing 2 fuses . funny thing to me was the sony amp I have open has the exact amplifier IC STK4191-II . wish I could get to the bottom of the 2 fuses blowing.

Lost count of the number of power amp hybrid ICs I've replaced over the years. Probably around half of them came in with huge fuses. No one ever admits to blowing them up :-)

depends on how much damage there is inside, it may be just the output amp chip or the chip and other parts and board damage. Have you opened it up and seen if anything looks burnt or exploded? Get another estimate at least. Also, its a shame to have say this but the more interest you show on the repair the more you will probably pay, its best to show little desire to put alot of money into it, even better to say its your dads amp and he doesnt want to spend alot..

Have u ever rapired a buttkicker amp 2nd one I have and they blow fuses, I changed transistors but no luck ,out of warranty or seeing if i can send u it to repair and use it as tutorial for others who have same problem I'll pay parts n shipping as long u don't kill me with price, lol

Fuses are for stupid people who hook up shitloads of speakers all upto 1 channel and then turn up the volume to the max. When i was 8 i did it, and killed old nice looking Estonia amp :/ I fixed it today, easy. Electronics are fun.
