They're all over NY State. Everywhere, not just the Catskills. I've seen them during the day in my backyard south of Rochester. Watch it jump down from a tree about thirty feet in the air. I hear them constantly screeching at night in my driveway and sometimes under my bedroom window. I've watched them attack and chase deer in the yard. We have almost no squirrels anymore.

In Alberta the Fisher are moving into the fringe farm land. The food supply must be better there, and I have pictures of one mousing in a canola field. I have seen tracks in a major city's river valley.

Yeah I heard the turkey population in PA is getting wrecked for some time now. Apparently the game commission said fisher cats don't kill turkeys, when hunters wanted to hunt fisher cats to cull their numbers. Saw a video of a fisher cat taking a turkey to poultry town.

I enjoyed your video. I live in New Brunswick Canada. Last winter I saw some tracks that I thought might be a bobcat or lynx. I set up a trail cam with some sardines as bait, some on top and some buried in the snow. The next day I went back and the sardines were gone. When I watched the video it was a fisher. It was around 3 in the morning. I have a cheap camera and he noticed it as soon as the light came on. He stood on his hind legs about 3 feet from the camera and it was pretty cool. He then approached the camera and started messing with it, knocking it off aim so that when he eventually started eating the sardines all I could see was the top of his head occasionally. I have since set up a go pro with a power bank and a cheap motion light and I get about 9 hrs of video before the card is full. I was hoping for more natural color than the trailcam and it does work, the problem is I'm only getting racoons now. Do fishers have a different range in the summer?

@puddytat54 Thanks for watching and enjoying our videos! Fishers do not migrate seasonally. Dispersal is the primary method for spreading a population. A study of fishers in the southern Cascades found evidence of mostly male juveniles traveling to avoid competition, to avoid inbreeding, and to colonize other territory. In contrast, females tend to return to or stay within their home range. Your fisher was probably a male and moved on to other territory.

@@OutdoorExperiences Thanks. To me this is one of the most interesting animals in the forest. A 15 lb weasel is a formidable hunter, apparently capable of killing a lynx. I'll get one on video eventually.

@@puddytat54 Same I am blown away that this fierce predator is capable of preying on lynx laying low out of snowstorms or sleeping.......as big cats are often the top predators in their domain (of course the biggest cat that shares their domains is the mountain lion that would waste any fisher). It's uncanny but reports show that bobcats most often kill them, although the lynx is bigger. Some fishers reportedly tried ambushing bobcats, mistaking them for lynx probably and got the tables turned on them. There is a video of two mature bobcats playing on a hill by their den, I was shocked at how fast the bobcat pinned the fisher cat down and killed it (near effortlessly, although that clip cut off cause the battery died in the camera).

I've got one, at least, on my property (North Central PA just below the NY border). This spring I'm mostly finding fawn legs but have also found the remains of a turkey, a porcupine and the head of a cat. [ I hope the cat was feral and not one belonging to one of my neighbors.] Seems like maybe once a week or so my wife and I will be woken by the blood curdling vocalization of the Fisher.

The weasel family should be classed as super predators there's nothing that can take them on really pound for pound they are relentless in the persute after there prey and they will also take orther predators out of the game

Why would anyone want to trap a fisher? For their fiur? To make them pets? Educate me! Because from where I am at and from what I am seeing , these animals need to be left alone so that can live as God intended! Real Talk! 😎❤️🧐✌️👌😉

Sure no problem, people have various reasons, some trap for the fur or relocate if allowed in the state, I believe its against the law to keep them as pets you would have to check your state on that, they are predators and will kill poultry and cats which many people do not like to have around their place, they prey upon rabbits and porcupines so if people like those more they trap to keep the balance in check, thanks for the comment!
@seanedmond3927
@seanedmond3927 Жыл бұрын
@@OutdoorExperiences Okay if I were to trap them, it would be to use them as the natural exterminators that they are, to keep my land and area free of rodent infestations and to get rid of any wild or feral cats away from property, as well! But other than that, I see no reason to mess with these guys at all! If I did relocate them to my property, I would still let them live as nature intended them to! I would not interfere with them and what they do on a daily basis. Just enjoy them as nature intended! ‘Nuff said! 😎❤️✌️👌🧐🤨

What you are explaining is the exact opposite to what natural "balance" is. Whoever harms these guys for illegitimate reasons will answer to God.
