I have had the Trekking pen for decades and it never accidentally opened. But just recently. the hard rubber part has just become soft and a little gooey but just on one of them. I have three. I just recently bought the Backpacker became I like the colors they come in but it feels like plastic though it’s aluminum. I personally like the heavier metal type. But in general, I love Fisher Space Pens! ❤

I’ve been seriously thinking lately about making my own just using a fisher refill. Basically grab a set of calipers And measure the diameter of the thickest part of the refill and then go to a place like online metals and fined thin wall titanium tubing with the inside diameter the same as the space pin refill. It would be so much thinner and lighter than anything out there. Maybe not quite as convenient but we’re talking about deep carry EDC type stuff. With the refill cartridge and the tubing I don’t see it costing more than $15 to maybe $20 tops.

It would be easier to buy a titanium pen that already takes the Fisher cartridges. And then milling them on the outside, then reanodize to a color of your liking. There are a couple of companies that make titanium pens that take many different cartridges like from Fisher.

I had to stop using the Backpacker because it kept falling apart. either falling off my key chain or when i would take it out to write something it would come apart wrong and the ink cartridge would fallout and I would have to put it back together to write. I went back to my old Inka pen from the 90s.

6:32 The ring on top is still useful for preventing rolling if the pen is carried detached from a keychain. : - ) This seems great for pocket carry, and solves some of the (hackable) reported issues with the bullet pen (clip detaching or scratching the pen during installation, failing o-rings needing to be replaced to keep cap on), and I like that it's lighter. The bullet pen is elegant though!

Thanks for the review of the 3 pens. I've been carrying and using a Nite Ize Mobile Inka Pen + Raiant Squeeze Light. Both are attached via nylon S-biners. Have carried these on button hole loops or lanyards for a year now. The pen has a screw-in twist-lock, however it is plastic. Over the past year the cap has a fracture on both side, yet the twist-lock still stays put. And with both of my jobs the pen gets used LOTS. This has been the only pen that has not gone walkabout on me, and I'm a large fella. Had always wanted a Fisher Space Pen, but the price. Yeah, if that puppy went walkabout... /grr So was looking online to see the difference between the Trekker or Backpacker models. The Fisher Space Pen site does not show how these attach. Did a search and found your video comparison. Have read on Amazon that people have lost their pen counterparts with both models. Of course with reviews there is ALWAYS someone that has an issue or does not like the product/video no matter what. Still, as you pointed out, the snap-on is not always reliable. And we're talking $25+ pens here. So, I thank you. Will probably stay with what I have unless the Nite Ize Inka Moble fails to write in the freezing cold this winter. Most the time I am indoors so not had an issue, and it does write upside down. Fisher Space Pen ought to consider a twist-lock system. Then I would buy one. As for the gloves, maybe a spandex version that were more close to your hand 'fit' might be better, however I chose not to be offended by your gloves. Everyone needs a theme or theatric in their videos. :) ell done, and thank you!

Thank you. :) One option if you like the space pen option but don't like the cost, Fisher has space pen refills that will fit any pen that takes a standard Parker Jotter-type refill. You can make whatever pen you like a space pen. :) You can usually find the refills on Amazon for around $6 or so. I did finally find some better gloves. I went through a bunch of different pairs first though. :)

Have the same bullet pen for over 10 years and not one single issue. It's just a different color from what you have on your video. I think I paid if I remember correctly 11 bucks for it from a mom and pop stationary shop here in town that's no longer in business.

I have mixed feelings on the bullet... it does write on virtually any surface in all conditions... problem is that it keeps spontaneously popping apart and anyone that has a lid on it is not great for field work...

I have the bullet and the trekker. The bullet can fall out of a pocket. The trekker on the other hand can be secured to a lanyard fastened to a belt loop which is what I do at work. Or did! I took it off and lost it! Devastated.....They don't come cheap in the UK.
@WhiteGloveReviews5 жыл бұрын
You can get a clip to add to the bullet pen if you think that might help from it getting lost.
@w.s.soapcompany946 жыл бұрын
your key chain could be some kind of spring clip. Take the cap off the key chain for longer writing or just pull free from cap to add a tip to a receipt.
@yaboyangry3inch7223 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't recommend the trekker. After long term use the cap releases the pen with extreme ease.

This is exactly what I have experienced after having the same pin on my keychain for a little over 10 years now. Hard to complain though because I’m still working with the original ink and again it’s 10 years every day for something like $33. I never expected this Would last even have this long and yet it’s still going strong except for the cat it’s just slightly wiggly and easy to get off compared to what it was new

I was just thinking of posting asking if the backpacker or Trekker has a belt clip option. Preferably a belt clip all the way at the top so the pen does not stick out of your pants which makes it easy to lose or get snagged on things

I did look through a bunch of their offerings and in addition to the Trekker and Backpacker, they have the more classic shape with a ring: look up: "Matte Black Bullet Space Pen, Jump Ring" or "CHROME BULLET SPACE PEN, JUMP RING"

While it can write underwater the spring will rust away.

There's no spring in them.
@TheAkashicTraveller Жыл бұрын
@@nirfz There is a spring in the bullet pen, grab the nib and pull on it and you'll feel it. I assume it's there to stop the cartridge rattling about since they won't all be the exact same size.
@nirfz Жыл бұрын
@@TheAkashicTraveller I have a Trekker and it has no spring. I also have 2 similar ones from Niteize (they stopped making them, it was called the inka-pen also with pressurized cartridge and it has no spring either, but is even smaller than the Fisher Trekker.) Also you can make such a spring out of copper or brass too, both won't rust. (sprung electrical contacts are often mad that way, or at least galvanized with copper which also prevents rust)
