'Strike the Bell' - original words are 'Up in the Wheelhouse Anderson stands...' known this from the 60's as I have the same surname...... A bit like 'Trelawney' - lyrics are 'In London - Better Men than you, Not Men the Same as you' - Please STOP changing the Lyrics of these old shanties.

I had no idea you were the flame keeper for this music. Can you show proof that your lyrics are from the original? No you can't, so shut up and listen.

Had a look, best I can tell the song was created about 1865. It's very likely that the name was changed from ship to ship - even from watch to watch - to match the steersman on duty, so tracking down the 'real' original lyrics is nigh on impossible. And the original words to Trelawney (properly called "The Song Of The Western Men") - which is a poem by Robert Stephen Hawker - are actually 'Here's men as good as you', meaning the 'change' is closer to the original.
