Hi Robert, PONTOONS !!!!!! I have a "sit in" kayak, 9 ft. I put two 5 ft long pvc pipes 1-1/2" dia across the back. Use "U" bolts to mount the pipes to the hull and bolt on 24" long boat fenders to the ends. Get the fenders with the rope holes on both ends. Use large flat washers to bolt the fenders to the ends of the pipes. They make tough pontoons. Strap a milk crate to the back cargo area and add some bungee cords to hold your gear inside the crate. This really stabilized my kayak. Thanks, Mickey
@robcaponesoutdooradventure82866 жыл бұрын
mickey h Hi Mickey , Great idea , I bet it would even be ok out past the surf if I do that mod to it ! Thanks for the idea and the step by step, I know exactly what you mean.
@1539Mickey6 жыл бұрын
If you can't get under the gunwale for a nut and washer, get the rubber bushings that expand when tightened. See Marty Zoffinger's video, where he added pontoons. The kit he used only has one arm for the pontoon. The rubber expanding bushings/grommets look like they would work good. My pontoons really made a big difference in stability. The longer the pipes will make the pontoons more stable.

mickey h Thanks Mickey, I went to your channel and seen you liked his video "Marty Zoffinger'" and watched him put it on and I agree those grommets are very cool indeed. It will be a great winter project, Thanks again my friend !

I just picked up a Sundolphin Marquette 10 from Dunham Sports in Wisconsin. It's identical to your Journey 10 SS. Those elastic cords on the front and back are NOT attached to the handles. I think those folks at Walmart assembled yours wrong. My bottom line was $256 without a paddle. That gave me the opportunity to pick out my own paddle that fit me. ($35) Thanks for the informative and fun review. I am very happy to be up north were gators don't pose a problem. Happy fishing Brother!

Standing and sitting in the kayak looks like a new workout! I don't own a kayak, so my thoughts are not the most valuable, but it seems dry storage ought to be dry without any sort of modifications. It's ok for the price. My first yak was a Sams Club special an it was actually not bad. Weber Lifetime 120. That leftward tracking could be the wind trying to blow that ass end around. Short yaks are prone to that. My slayer 10 gets blown around too but I can counteract with the pedal drive so it's not a big deal. Great review Robert. I like the pool footage. Shows just how tippy that yak is. And impossible to get back into it. Wow. I wouldn't attempt a stand up in the canal. Oh no.

@robcaponesoutdooradventure82866 жыл бұрын
Tony Patey Hi Tony, The holes were so the cavity wouldn't get full of water and sink, It seemed to hold air and water under the floor and that's why I couldn't get back in it because the cavity filled and I couldn't get it leveled out if you know what I mean. Thanks again and have a nice week !

There are plugs you buy to put in the bottom of those wholes so it doesn’t take on water so I didn’t see this video a year ago but you can also buy foam golf balls and shove them in there and they seem to work just as good

This was a great review video and really helped me make up my mind about buying the Journey 10 SS. Iv been fishing in a sit-in kayak and this will be my first sit-on. Any tips for improving tracking? Possibly a skeg on the bottom?
@robcaponesoutdooradventure82865 жыл бұрын
No I would not try and do anything to the tracking, Thanks for watching and I wish you ATB in your adventures.

I saw on the news what the devastation looked like, it looked absolutely horrible from what I could see.I feel bad for the people there that have suffered losses, I hope rebuilding starts quickly and lives can get back to normal soon, I know it will be an uphill road.

Another review of this same boat, the lady filled the two holes with ear plugs. Claimed it worked great - didn't take on anymore water.

Had to check this one out too...it's Jane this time. We may tow the car this summer, which means we can get kayaks! woot woot! It's super helpful to hear this info from someone who uses the kayak similar to the way we would (minus the gator friends)😬 nice review Robert!

$600 Canadian plus tax :-) Nice review Robert. Always get a canoe that has a beer holder! I'd leave the straps but move the pull rod to the holes in the stern and bow. As is that won't last 2 minutes I'd not buy it. The inability to right it is a massive safety fail in any water
@robcaponesoutdooradventure82866 жыл бұрын
Huples Cat Emergency Preparedness Lifestyle I am with you on the canoe , They make them so light these days for portaging but they are not cheap by any means. When I flipped this kayak it took water in the cavity and it is impossible to get out unless you take it to shore, I should have stayed with my first rating of 4 and I would never recommend this kayak to anyone down here because of gators and sharks.
