This underwater footage really does answer the life long question, how in the world do fish take your bait all the time without being hooked. Literally the bait was in the pompano and permits mouth and then they spit out the bait and the hook. I am sure a lot of the time the hook is spit out without the bait on it. Just amazing footage that answers questions from us anglers. Please continue to post more of these underwater videos.
@darrellcook82532 жыл бұрын
I'm blaming the curve in the hook. It's too curved IMO. I've had contests fishing for things that lived in the kelp beds and the simple Eagle Claw hooks outperformed the curved hooks ten to one. If I felt the bite nine out of ten times it was followed by a hookup. If it made it into a fish mouth it wasn't coming out until I took it out. On the California coast before the kelp collapse ruined everything. I hate sea urchins.

@@darrellcook8253 yes. J hooks do work better on some fish. I found the super light Tru turn round bend hooks work better on the rapid biting fish.

The sand volcano is typical of a mantis shrimp burrowing a hole. I watched this growing up in Hawaii. Their many legs can produce the volume of sand that is thrown up as they dig a home or clean out their burrow. Then again I've also seen this type of activity from underground springs but it's usually a constant stream then a short burst. Nice vid.

Do you have a license for that permit? 6:40 looks like it may be some sort of nudibranch which can be venomous and would explain why its not getting eaten in such a vulnerable environment. I'm surprised not to see any flatfish or rays.

Not the same as being on the sand, but you can still fish the surf from a pier. I'm not sure about all piers, but most are handicapped accessible. I know at our pier (Surf City Pier in Surf City, NC) we go out of our way to help get you out on the planks and wetting a line!

An old timer that I fished with frequently after my dad passed away, told me that when Fish go to test a bait.. they will take a quick nibble at it first…and if they don’t like the feel.. they move on. He was a firm believer in homemade floats from flip-flops that were soft, versus some of the Styrofoam models that are out there now. I wasn’t going to question his knowledge, and we had pretty good luck with soft floats. I also experimented with soft float-hooks.

Go fish cam and salty pompano should absolutely be sponsoring you sir, this is awesome! I have never fished in such beautiful waters, except 1 time on a "deep sea fishing charter boat" years ago, catching red snapper. I've always fished the white river for catfish and white perch. Very few sturgeon below an old (1911 or so built hydropower dam) called Williams dam in Williams Indiana. It's so rich with insanely huge catfish and lord only knows what else... this is everything I've ever wanted, to see what actually happens once your lines in the water. 💯.

Very nice video! That creature might be a sea slug. I think the pomps go after the floats bc they think its a sand flea. They might be biting it to determine if its real and if they really want to take it as though they were kind of sampling it by tasting it. I think if you create fish gum bait that floats in the shape of a sand flea it might do well.

Interesting how the fish played with the bait but did not commit. From now on this will be my thinking on a slow day that they are there but not taking the bait. I've had a lot of floats damaged or chewed on. I use a toothpick broken off to peg the float up next to the hook. Great footage, some of the best I've ever seen. I'll continue to use FishGum both in the surf & on the charter boat when dropping down.

Have you tried tying any of those rigs with lil' corkies? We use them drift fishing for steelhead, and you have a pretty good assortment of sizes and colors. I am going to try tying some of those rigs with a stinger hook as well since the sand shrimp/ghost shrimp we have in Oregon are so soft. I think a snelled hook with a stinger on the tag end should work pretty well. If a smaller float like a corkie isn't enough to raise your bait, then a smaller hook with a stinger could also counter that.

You need a multicam area trail cam type setup. To really get a feel of all the beach fish traffic. Battery life and memory will be the issue. So, a hard wire or cellular connection will be necessary. Use A.I powered analysis of the fish type. While you're at it, hook up with the local university and do a research paper. Great work. Keep it up.
@user-rr5ce1wb2j Жыл бұрын
Do you always fish with so many floats, trace floats, bullet floats on the line or is that just to keep the bait off the bottom for better footage? I've always found a natural laying bait on the bottom gets the best bite rate - only the bait visible with fluoro carbon trace.
