Now I’ve only caught three large trevs but one of them was over thirty so I have somewhat of an idea on how to get them to bite when they’re just chasing the lure like they were when you got the big trout, just fast wind the stick bait and they’ll smash it as opposed to half assed hits

Spangled emperors are one of the best fighting reef fish pound for pound. And they are very tasty, unlike what you heard. I personally prefer them over red throat emperors.

No wonder you’re loosing fish. You have too much of a hurry getting it up, you’re equipment can’t keep paste. You need to relax, pull in in a steady paste so the line doesn’t get slack, and just tire out the fish with your brake.
