Adam Little Yeah, when Jon B did his winter minnesota mississippi river smallmouth video, there was at least 30-40 anglers a day that came down to the same spot. Ruined it since
@davidmann94677 жыл бұрын
I totally get the "not giving away spots" thing but I don't really see how naming a lake that's over 400, 500 acres is going to ruin the fishery. If somebody is that desperate for a spot, they are probably a rookie and when they get on a big body of water like that they won't even begin to know where and how to get fish. Here are some great smallmouth lakes in New Hampshire: Squam, Winnisquam, Newfound. Did I give away any spots, and are these fisheries now ruined? No, they're big lakes that anybody can look up on a map. My point is that unless it's some small pond that has some insane population of big bass, it's unlikely that people are going to come in droves and destroy fish populations there.
@ntwtransam7 жыл бұрын
At the same time naming the location adds nothing to the video except for the potential to harm the fisheries.
@lexm07 жыл бұрын
David Mann Those are for anglers that actually respect the fishery though. After Jon B shouted out that spot, I saw people keeping 3,4,5 pound smallmouth all the time. Its the prevention of mass spreading the whereabouts to all anglers, whether they C&R only or keep everything they catch with no regard for the population and generations to come.
@davidmann94677 жыл бұрын
That's true ntwtransam. It certainly wouldn't *help* the fishery to draw more anglers who may not respect the fish. And like I said I think it's fine to keep good fishing locations secret, I just doubt that somebody knowing that a lake has big smallmouth will cause hundreds of anglers to come and take all the good fish to eat. The top smallmouth lakes in NH are well known and fished by ignorant tourists, and yet they still produce monster fish. In some instances taking fish from a lake can help because then there is less competition for forage. Obviously taking all of the 5 pounders out isn't good but culling to some extent can actually help a fishery.

Very well put man - for as much crap as we get for "exposing lakes" this is a great example of what a majority of us KZbinrs think about all the time that we put out videos - the balance of good content/b-roll while still protecting our lakes. Awesome video and great job catching all those TANK smallies!

I fished the rivers/creeks in central Ohio for 15 years after smallmouth, caught 100+ fish i nbetween 15-19.5" but could never break that 20" barrier. Went up to St Clair for 3 days, broke 20" 3 times. Its downright shocking what those fisheries can produce.

hot spotting is probably the biggest "issue" for fisherman on social media/forums these days. 1 poorly timed post or video can ruin a small body of water...bigger lakes can take a lot more pressure. some people have stopped posting on forums or just posted a week or two after their trip so that the conditions will have changed.some people still just don't get it until their "secret spot" gets hit.
