This was a legit blitz in the surf. These fish were so thick it was almost cast for cast. In this vid we show you how to get on a bite like this and catch these giant redfish and speckled trout. This surf fishing was like something some people think only exists in Florida but in our amazing fishery of the Mid-Atlantic we get some amazing days on the beach where these fish just stack up!
Surf Fishing you can absolutely do with just smaller rods and lighter tackle - and with artificials and jigs. Be on the lookout for a tutorial coming soon!
Here are tips for Fishing on the Beach in the Surf:
Look for deep spots
Cast far as possible into those deep spots
Work the jig same as in the creeks - bounce on the bottom
Keep moving until you find the fish - just like inshore, the fish will be stacked in one place typically
Gear:
1/4 oz jighead
Your favorite soft plastic - we used the Z-Man Paddle Tail

Got a serious question. Growing up I was taught to never grab a fish by the gills. I mainly did pond, lake, and mountain streams. Im new to salt fishing and was wondering if grabbing a red by the gill plate was safe for the fish.

Safe for the fish as long as you don’t shove your fingers into his gills and know that redfish gill plates are also crushing plates and prepare for your fingers to hurt a bit lol good luck fishing bud
