Join my wife and I for an action packed fishing trip to the infamous Concrete Ships. Located in Kiptopeke State Park on the lower eastern shore of the Chesapeake Bay. In this video we will target red drum, flounder, sheepshead and tautog. I talk briefly about each setup I use and my reasoning behind my techniques. Additionally at the end of the video I tell an unbelievable tale of something very shocking that just barely missed being on video. I hope you all enjoy!

Of course! Thanks for the rig idea, I don’t think the sheep were biting much that day but I’m definitely making a couple more of those rigs for the arsenal. I also saw your message on FB and thank you for the info! Been meaning to respond but keep forgetting. Really appreciate it man🤙🏼

Every time I go to the concrete ships I get skunked lol, I still have 0 videos there. I gotta get out there again this year. I saw my first sturgeon driving home over the JRB, coolest thing ever. Massive.

Not gonna lie the two trips I made this summer were tough. Caught fish but each day was 8 hours. I think the flounder there are really pressured too. The sturgeon freaked me out man, it was cool but if there’s a next time I’d like to see it jump 30ft further away haha!

Great video, just subbed. I fished here two days ago and had a pretty similar day to yours, minus the mystery sea monster.

Thanks man! Yes you totally do. If you get out there before the flounder are gone bring something to tip your jig heads (Cobia belly or some sort of cut bait) or bring live minnows. The 2 guys that caught their limit of flounder there were using minnows. I think the flounder there might be really pressured. I’m hoping the bigger striped bass show up there this fall too🤙🏼

@@1stTide I hope the stripers show up too. I haven't even seen one yet. And I need to catch them. Any and all advice or tips for places and information on them would be really great. My buddies have caught them randomly but they don't know how and where to really target stripers seriously. I would like to be more serious about it. I used to catch plenty of snook in Florida and I hope striped bass are a good substitute.

Thank you! I think that first one maybe didn’t run because I was right over him applying vertical pressure. I feel like vertical pressure vs horizontal maybe causes them to fight differently? And thanks for the sturgeon support LOL. I really am bummed I missed getting it on camera. Of course I record 8+ hours of footage that day and miss the craziest thing I’ve seen on the water😂

Wow. Awesome red drum! Fished there previously and never got one. My buddy had a huge cobia on some clam flipped up under that ship.

Thank you! That’s the second time I fished there and those are the only 2 I’ve caught. The Cobia is nuts! I’m very jealous, anytime I’ve been there or out at the CBBT I’ve had a big paddle tail ready to throw if I see one on top but nothing yet.

Just went out there today. No drum but got a 26” sheepshead, a couple keeper sized weakfish (kept 1) and a keeper 14” sea bass. Nice catches!

Nice going! Did you get the sheep on the ships or pilings? Also maybe it’s me but I’d take a 26” sheep over a couple 30” reds any day. Congrats! I’ve been waiting to try sea bass, had a few 10.5” at the CBBT & HRBT but no keepers yet🤙🏼

Love the channel, been looking for some easy saltwater kayak fishing spots as a Virginia local but need calm waters as mine are sit in kayaks more geared towards freshwater. Any spot suggestions would be great, definitely plan on checking out Cow Island from your other vids though!

Thank you so much! Plum tree island area is great! The concrete ships @ kiptopeke would also be very do able. There only 1/4 mile from shore and there’s kids on paddle boards that go out to them. Main thing I would pay attention to is wind. Anywhere you go try to pick days where the wind is blowing mainly from an inland direction. That way you can avoid any waves that might be created by it🤙🏼

This vid was shot on a very calm day. Wind waves and ripping current just outside the ships is common. No joke out there.

Congratulations on your first Tautog. They are notorious thieves and make the best fish tacos you've ever had. Wait till you catch a Redfish over 30" in the marsh in 2 feet of water. All that power becomes a glorious sleigh ride in the kayak.

Thank you! And yes they tested my patience. Jill made a delicious beer batter and we did a simple fried fish sandwich. One of the best eating fish I’ve had out of the bay. I’m sure a 30+ in the marsh is a ride! I’d like to get one on my fly rod!👍🏼

@@1stTide I have seen videos of sturgeon jumping in the Suwannee River and other FL rivers. Occasionally they hit boaters. Apparently they were pretty common in FL rivers long ago until people hunted them for the caviar. Some sturgeon are farmed in Sarasota where I grew up. Just for the eggs. A buddy worked there for a day catching and killing the fish from pools and dragging them to the butchers. He said it was too sad to go back another day. I can see that.

A tarpon crossed my mind but the coloring above the lateral line was way more brown and coppery. The coloring reminded me of a drum. And I’m pretty sure I saw the whiskers were on the bottom. I think I would have rather it been a tarpon I don’t know why but it would have freaked me out less 😂
