Hi Brad, If you are still looking for a large Tarpon, I will share what I know. I fished for many years with Billy Rabito SR ( professional guide). He won several Tarpon tournaments over the years. Large Tarpon are found regularly in the Bahia Honda channel under the highway bridge with a boat. You will need a slip anchor with buoy so you can release anchor and chase down large tarpon ( usually in excess of 100 lbs are common). 200 plus come from this area. Best bait by far if you can catch them or buy them are live crabs about 5-6 inches.. Cut claws off and hook in corner with large circle hook. Carolina rig with sturdy leader or sufficient weight to get off surface with current. Let crab drift under bridge, set bail and put rod in holder. Do not have to wait long. Best time is in the evening with moving tide. Once Tarpon is hooked it will run hard and fast jumping as well. ( remember to bow to Tarpon when they jump or they will spit hook!) Release anchor and chase as you reel in line. Be prepared to fight for at least 30 minutes as these fish this size are amazingly strong. Touching the leader is considered a catch. If you cant get crabs, live mullet, pinfish and blue runners work but not as good as crabs. Good luck, Gene

Gene, Thank you for spending your time to educate many fishermen who would be thrilled just to hook and get a few jumps from a Tarpon, much less bring them to leader. I wanted to point out that your advice doesn't just apply to the keys or that particular spot. I live in Clearwater, and that is exactly how we fish for them at the Sunshine Skyway, Gandy, and the Howard Franklin Bridges! All are bridges that span Tampa Bay!

Fun fact, In Florida You are not required to show your fishing license to any cop other than FWC. "who fails to produce a recreational license, state-issued identification card or driver license indicating possession of a recreational license, permit, or authorization number at the request of a commission law enforcement officer commits a violation of the law." * Notice how it says commission officer not commissioned officer.

Hey Brad, I'm originally from Trinidad where a day at the beach must include one of our national dishes: shark and bake. It's seasoned fried shark with various condiments including spicy garlic mayo on "bake" which is like fried bread. I live in Toronto Canada but still make this once a month...it's that good! I'd share a pic if I could but not sure if I can do that here. In any case look it up and give it a shot, it's guaranteed to be a big hit with your viewers! Tight lines buddy!

best way to cook bonnet head shark is you bleed it and prep it like you did, soak in milk for 30 minutes, dry it off, rub with spices, wrap it in tin foil with butter and crushed garlic cloves, then wedge it onto the engine block and drive to the next location about 15-20 minutes away. Shark will be straight. Do not forget to get it out of there and eat it tho, or your car will STINK the next day.

Hi Brad this is Pipo. I remember since 1971 I used to fish anywhere in Miami shores and catch fish and shrimp. Not anymore. The keys are heading the same direction. It’s full of no fishing signs and no vehicles allow in the area. They force you to go a bridge or in a boat. This is the results of people littering and not picking up the trash after done fishing. But not always the case. Lots of low income people that can not afford a boat or pay for a trip, are force to stay home and not able to find a spot from shore to be able to fish. I do lots of shore fishing with the grandkids and wife, but every year it gets harder to find a save spot to do it. I know you know the rules but there are lots of people out there that keep ilegal fish cause they are ignorant or think that they won’t get caught. It’s just a matter of time. I love your videos . Maybe one day my vids will be as good as yours. Tide lines. Miami fishing Pipo
