*Great item. First cast out of the package caught a nice bass. Pulls smooth in the water and sets up nicely immediately upon retrieval. Worth adding to your tackle box.*

What are your thoughts about using a snap to connect bucktail to main line instead of tying directly

Bucktail jig Is beast 💪🎣😀🇬🇹🤝 🇺🇸

Do you reel or jerk the rod at all when the bucktail is sweeping across? How quickly should the lure hit the bottom when determining weight?

I like to incorporate a slow retrieve. Just enough to keep the line tight. As the bucktail swings along, a twitch every 5 seconds or so can helps at times. It may take a few seconds for the lure to hit the bottom after it hits the water. Hope this helps. -Matt

That does help! Thanks for the tips!

You look like you did ok there...I find Spros are great from a boat and vertical jiggin... Some other makes have the eye a little more forward on the head which make it better when a more horizontal retrieve is needed like from a beach and always add a tail like 5 in Gulp minnow (white, red, chateaus) or pork rind otter tail

While drifting on a boat in 10-20 feet of water during a fast tide what is the maximum weight bucktail typically required to hold the bottom? 2/4/6/8oz? Are the 6 & 8oz weights for deep water only?
@thefishermanmagazine4 жыл бұрын
You have to take many variables into consideration. I can't see using more than 2oz though in most conditions with 10-20 feet of water. The 6 and 8oz are designed for deeper water mainly. -Matt

Something important that is often overlooked is monofilament vs braid when jig fishing. if you feel like you need to use 6 and 8 ounces in 10-20 feet of water even with a lot of current, consider downsizing the jig a little but switching to a smaller diameter braid. Less resistance from the line in the water will mean that a lighter jig can get down deeper faster.

Wait, what? You toss the lure up-tide and just let it drift down on the bottom?
