Of course the first video of the season has to be filled with challenges and obstacles.
Come along for the ride as I get turned away twice before finally finding some great rainbows.
Creek Freak Master Baits, a local Arizona company sent me several lures to try on this trip. Now I'm picky about what i use, but i like the looks of these new lures. Hopefully they'll be a hit!
If your just here for the fishing..Great. It starts at 11:50. Otherwise, just sit back, grab a double Bombay Sapphire martini, and check out a little of the beauty of the 48th state.

I miss running into the old timers out fishing and their jokes, lol. That "boo" brought back some funny memories back.

My goodness that was an ordeal, but you ended up with some nice trout for sure! I admire your dedication. I have fished that creek many times over the past several decades. It is one of my favorites. I remember having it all to myself mid-week in years past. Not so much anymore. The changes to the wild places in our state kind of makes me sad. I never would have thought the rim road would get paved. I really don't understand it. I love primitive places. I don't mind the extra effort to reach them. Rough roads are just fine with me. On a positive note, I really enjoyed your video! Thanks for taking us along. I look forward to the next one.

Hey Troy, Ya it was an interesting first trip..I am planning a more structured trip (hopefully), to Chevelon in a couple weeks. I've also got a few miles of creek on the reservation that i havent fished and cant wait for that trip, so if your interested in either i can let you know when.

Not sure what I think about the rim road being paved. Guess it will be nice during the week, but forget weekends.

its already such a mess..the paving will at least keep some of the dust down during summer. but ya, it'll bring more cars for sure.

What a horrible start to a trip! Hopes dashed at every corner! But once again, beautiful imagery of our awesome state. And of course you caught some great looking fish. Keep up the great videos.

Hey Joel, Ya it was a normal trip..i just don't usually show the pain. ha! I had great luck with the lures..I'll be taking them down to the Reservation, down to water that's fished very little. I'm betting the Brown trout are gonna be in for a surprise. Thanks for the great comment!

Great video. Persistence pays off. Whereabouts did you set up camp and what part of the creek were you fishing?

Hey Matt, Thanks for the great comment! I stayed at upper canyon creek campground..great place but busy and noisy on the weekends. This is the top stretch of canyon creek..if you Google the canyon creek hatchery, you'll find the campground right next to it. Thanks again..charley

I went to Chevelon first time a couple weeks ago to the south end, same spot. Didn’t get one bite on top or bottom (was using barbless spinners and a trout jerkbait). Next time im trying the north end by the dam. Went to Willow springs the day before, not much trout action either (compared to last week 25+ rainbows) but I found 160$ Orvis net someone left. Great video Id like to see what im missing at Chevelon!

Hey azfishd, Thanks for watching. Ya, Chevelon is not an easy lake to fish..early morning has been best for me. I've made 2 attempts at the North end with no fish. The South end seems to work better for me. Thanks again..Charley

Hey! Nice video. Do you think you need high clearance to get to Chevelon? I wanna fish here but I have a Buick Lucerne haha
@charleysoutthere3966
@charleysoutthere3966 15 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching! i wouldn't take a car to the south end, because you need too much clearance in places. The north end of the lake has a campground and the road in is a lot easier. Chevelon Canyon Lake Campground is on forest service road 169b. The walk to the lake at the north end is about a mile. Good luck!

Awesome video newer subscriber can you use live bait or power bait at canyon creek?
@charleysoutthere3966
@charleysoutthere3966 Ай бұрын
Great to have you here! Powerbait, worms, corn are all popular and legal on this stretch of creek. This area falls under the "General Fishing Regulations" in Az. Good Luck and thanks again for the great comment

Ya, they worked well. I dont usually use treble hooks and that is the one thing I didn't like, but you can order them with single hook. Thanks for the comment
