@@CaptCollier yes sir! Have you seen any good Mangrove or Vermillion lately? Only being allowed 1 trigger and no red snapper in April makes pickings slim.

I couldn't believe the gob of squid you were fishing with. It is funny we try to go stealthy on the triggers, light sinkers or just a jig head and small piece of squid. Caught nine and ten pounders with that method but no big ones the last two years for some reason. Now it is a struggle to catch a 17 incher. Like others have mentioned they make really fine ceviche.
@CaptCollier2 жыл бұрын
Awesome. The reason I like to use bigger pieces of bait, sometimes, is because the spots I fish there are a lot of undersize triggers that will instantly hit that small piece of squid and be on the hook, but when I use bigger pieces it usually takes longer for the small ones to eat it so it gives it enough time to sit down there for a bigger one to come scoop it up. Shoot I’ve caught my biggest trigger on a live 5” croaker

I’ve heard of people catching trigger fish here in Nova Scotia. I hope to be one of these people soon. With rising ocean temperatures it seems like we’re getting more species travelling north towards us. How do you like to eat them? What’s the meat like?
@CaptCollier Жыл бұрын
They are delicious! Firm, white meat. I hope you get one

Crazy only one per person! Can keep ten Grays in NC, was 30 in 2020. I make mamma bad ass trigger ceviche! Freezes nice also.
@CaptCollier2 жыл бұрын
Man that’s crazy, I wish we could keep more. 30 sounds like a lot though. And yes it does, but triggerfish around here don’t get frozen, it gets eaten fresh 😅

Great video and slabs for real. Are you guys fishing the near shore public reefs? Any guidance on what to look for to locate triggerfish? Almost all of the pyramids we hit seem to be taken over by snapper.
@CaptCollier2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Man you really have to keep bumping spot to spot until you find one that holds more trigger than snapper. The tanks tend to hold more triggerfish but I find that they are usually on the small side.

@@CaptCollier I'm up here in Jersey, we've been getting trigs in recent years, nothing that big. Still learning the game, it is just me or when you mark a school of them on the wreck it looks like real distinct squiggly lines on the sonar? Also, do you like use circle hooks better for them than J hooks? I've been using super small J hooks due to their tiny mouths, I'm talking like a 6 or an 8! Sweet video, new subscriber now!
