Well done mate. It might be just 1 lonely redfin, but considering the river was in major flood only a week or so ago I reckon thats pretty bloody good going. Hopefully things will continue to get better mate. 👍👍

Hi Rowan, good to see you back on the water. Snags are very annoying but a reality for every fisherman. Word of caution, when dislodging or breaking a snagged line, turn your back to the river just in case your sinker becomes a flying projectile. Some years back I've had the unfortunate experience to witness a woman loose her eye on the Murrumbidgee river trying to dislodge a snagged line. The catapult action of the bent rod and stretched line can produce some significant velocity.
@RKJFishing

Wow that sounds horrific! I've definitely had a few sinkers hooks and lures flung at my face haha. I usually hold my rod straight, walk backwards and turn my head just in case

I’d suggest making the trip up to fish the Murray, Ovens or Kiewa. They have been fishing quite well for me lately. Some days you still have to work for them but I’d say if you’re having trouble with your local spots the best thing is to try a different waterway

Nice reddy mate. They are cutting sick at the moment. Good to see you getting amongst them, They are the second biggest pickers second only to the silvers. Around here, if I get a picker, it is invariably small reddies. The weather sure has been painful this summer. Just as things beginning to settle, more rain and mud washes. The lake looks like chocolate milk at present lol. I am getting a heap of that size and bigger on worms and yabbies. Get a few yabbies or shrimp out there and see how big the reddies get :D
@RKJFishing
@RKJFishing Жыл бұрын
I've seen you having good success on the reddies up there Roo, which is awesome! Most of Victoria is very hit or miss with the redfin fishing this summer! I've had unreal days and I've had dead days, which isn't like the reddies at all. This summer sure has been interesting. Painful but interesting! lol. I will definitely have to take some yabbies and shrimp back next time I go to that spot, I reckon there'd be some yellas chasing those reddies around as well.
@AndrewFishman
@AndrewFishman Жыл бұрын
Yeah, been a long while since I got a decent yella. Got one not much bigger than the carp you were catching, but nothing exciting at all. And as for cod, been a few years now. I have not been targetting them, but even as a bycatch it is getting to "about freaking time" time for me and natives 🤣@@RKJFishing

Coop, you and me and every other person who has ever dangled a worm more than a couple of times have had THOSE days. The ones I hate are when you get a good strike in a few minutes of arriving, you miss/drop the fish and then you get NOTHING else for hours. 😂 Those are the days I feels like just leaving the rods on the lake or river shore and walking away from it all lol.

I don’t understand people having issues with fishing high river levels and claiming they are unfishable 😂. The Murray below the weir wall fished phenomenal when it flooded and all 5 gates were open. And from my other experiences any high water river I’ve fished always fishes better than when it’s low. In fact when the water levels are the lowest thats when it has fished the worst for me. Think about all the different food sources being flushed in especially when the water crashes against the bank and stirs up the bottom sediments. It forces bugs and worms to come out of the ground which bait fish pick off, then those same bait fish feeding attracts the attention of bigger predatory fish. It sends the fish into a feeding frenzy. It’s annoying seeing people complain all the time about how high the river level is, shut up and get out there and fish. If you’re not catching anything don’t blame it on the water 🤦.
@RKJFishing
@RKJFishing Жыл бұрын
To be fair most of this river is only 2 meters deep, and it was a good 10-12 meters deeper than that. Quite different to a fresh flow, it was an absolute torrent of danger. At it's highest it was literally unfishable apart from what I did at the weir in my previous video, and even then it was a good 5 meters below it's peak. When it's just a fresh flow I agree with you, but what the Campaspe River experienced the past week or 2 was very different.
