I've used the line method to remove large treble hooks with a 100% success rate. 3 for 3. All were barbed hooks. I think crushing the barbs is a great way to increase the ease of hook removal. Great video. Love the last cast hook ups!

Clayton y mentioned the most critical things when removing impeded hooks: that is to apply downwards pressure as y remover the hook. I started going barbless some 8 years ago when one treble had in my hand and another stuck in the pikes mouth. After that mess I went barbless. How much easier for us fishermen and the pike. Like that last cast..

Had a crank bait hit me in the leg and bury up to the shank through my jeans. Nothing like cutting hooks, dropping pants, and pushing the hook back up and through to get it out. Ever since I use the line trick in hands/fingers etc. it works great. Awesome video. I chuckle at the “small” 36”+ pike…when those are way above avg in Wisconsin (where I fish).

If you get a hook with a barb in you, you can also push the point of the hook out through your skin until you expose the barb and then use hook cutters to cut the hook below the barb and then pull the hook back out.

I also had a pike get a treble into me this season buy on the top of my knee while leaving the net. The hook was already almost through the other side of the skin from the fish thrashing while still hooked so I pushed it through the rest of the way and snipped the tip off with side cutting pliers I was thankful to have on board. I had also pinched the barb but it still had a bump.

Da boy up Schick creek. I remember catching about a 5 pound channel cat on a river rocker. Buddy wanted to be a hero and unhook it while I was getting pliers. Got a treble dug into his thumb while the other is still attached to the fish thrashing around...I had the pliers in my damn hand when it happened. Getting hooked is very avoidable...
