Dope vid bro! Lovin those calicos and hearing the yellows rippin drag. Noticed you were rippin the surface iron, those usually need a moderate retrieve to get them to kick right. Requires some playing around but once you get the retrieve speed just right itll have nice action with a random erratic kick that entices a bite.

Hey Robert , My son is the manager of the bait barge in Dana Point and They still catch em down there . However here in Long Beach area the water is sick and with shipping They have ruined the Horseshoe Kelp area which was the home of all the fishery in the area . The ocean is sick here , Down south it's still pretty good ! Fish on My friend !

Sad to hear. I’ve been to that bait barge in Dana point! In fact, I did an episode from there and your son might be in it! Scroll down to the Field Trips: West Coast playlist on my channel and the first video has a pic of a leopard shark. Watch that one and a couple minutes in we hit the bait barge!

Robert, you said it all brother..... You set your priorities and take your chances❗‼❗😝 I walked away from the San Francisco rat race but traded it to mine gold on the Salmon river Northern California and lived off deer and steelhead trout..... Trapped fir in the mountains of North Eastern Arizona and hunted Elk and Muley's and fly fished for 5 pound Rainbows and 20 pound catfish. Went back to school for electronics and 5 times around the world working on robots..... But I was always at work and away from home and it cost me too much and someone I loved.... So I changed coasts and went to work building boats here in Rhode island and and some of the best fishing I've ever had.... And the Whitetail and turkey are great too.... I didn't make much money, but I've seen things most people only see in magazines..... Like a freshly dropped baby fawn in the brush or baby turkeys crawling over my boots while their momma does her broken wing thing to lure me away from her chicks.... To the sight of a bald eagle swooping 10 feet over my head to snatch a 2 pound trout out of the water not 20 feet in front of me as I watch the sun rise over a mountain lake at dawn..... No I ain't got much money, but what I've been privileged to see more than a few times, a rich man can't always buy.... I'm coming to the end of my race now, and all I can say it's made an "E" ticket ride at Disneyland look tame. I may not die rich, but I won't die of fricken boredom either 😋👌

Just a tip on the surface Irons you don't have to reel them in as fast as possible you just want to swim it so it swims right. But then again if you were trying that too I guess fast it is too lol.

The bearing under the star drag on the lexas gets tweaked out of alignment if you fish it on really heavy locked drag. It causes the drag to slip. Easy to replace. Also the cudas on the west coast love a chrome surface iron. Single hook preferred. Ps. Where can I buy those vertical lures.

Great video, I’m not saying your wrong or anything like that, but those California sheephead look more like a ras fish than a sheephead. I caught many of east coast sheephead and they look nothing alike. East coast sheep head have squared off teeth and the body are oval like a porgy or football style. Those Cali sheep have sharp teeth and the body looks more like a taug tog
@YakFishField5 жыл бұрын
I’ve caught many gulf coast sheepshead. They are not related in any way. There are countless examples of fish that were named similarly in different parts of the world despite having no relation. The California sheephead IS a wrasse, and they are in no way related to the sheepshead you’re talking about. Also, gulf coast is sheepShead, while these are California sheephead (no S). Good eye guessing it was a wrasse 👌🏼
@YakFishField5 жыл бұрын
Oh, and California sheepshead ARE in the same family as tautog, so good eye there as well. I love traveling around and learning about all these fish.
