Field Trips with Robert Field

4 жыл бұрын

In this episode we're heading out into the Frederick Sound in southeastern Alaska in search of my first Pacific halibut, rockfish and black cod. We quickly realize on our way out that our small Bass Tracker may be ill-suited to dodging icebergs and humpback whales in the freezing ocean waters of the Wrangle Narrows. But all those worries fall away once we start hooking up... then it's ON!
COMMENT BELOW and tell me if you have any guesses about the species we asked for help identifying! If you haven't been to Alaska, tell me the #1 fish you'd want to catch up there or #1 thing you'd want to see!

@@YakFishField that made my day btw. Your channel is fucking AWESOME! I really been binge watching all your videos the past two days. I'm very picky about who I subscribe to because I'm on youtube all day, and you earned it. In fact, I haven't fished since elementary school (and I graduated HS 2 years ago) and you motivated me to hop in the Chesapeake Bay (In Maryland) and catch some Striped Bass as well as Snake heads. Keep up the amazing work. Also you're the first fishing channel I have ever found that I can chain watch (also the first fishing channel I've EVER subscribed to!)

My Dad and his brother would go up to Alaska every year back in the 50's and 60's for salmon and or halibut when in 1960 my dad landed a 300+ lb fish in a 16 foot open boat and the picture I saw had the fish laying in the bottom of the boat with it's wings curling over the gunuls of both sides of the boat. I don't know how many monsters like that are still left up there, but here in Rhode island we call the big fluke "Doormats" and that makes the fish my Dad caught a fricken "Wall to Wall Carpet". You bring back a lot of memories Robert, thank you so much for that....

Awesome video Robert! I love fishing the Frederick Sound - one the most amazing spots in all of Southeast Alaska and just a quick trip from Petersburg (a little farther trek down from Juneau). This is one of the rare places that you can be fishing for halibut or salmon and potentially see humpbacks, orcas, icebergs and snow-capped mountains all at the same time!

Just went fishing in Sitka last month in June, excursion from a cruise boat Holland America . Caught a 28 inch Lingcod and 8 small rockfish. I really wanted to catch a Halibut . Trouble we had was the charter boat , trolled for most of our trip for salmon , but we were not marking any fish and I finally called the captain out on it, and he changed up for us to jig for Rockfish and salmon.

I grew up there but first fish I'd want there is a large halibut. Failing that I want lingcod. Best lingcod in the world.
