Fishing for King Salmon | Marine Area 11 Point Defiance | July 1st 2022

Fishing for king salmon is something we look forward to every year in the Puget Sound. I decided to take my wife to the Marine area 11 king salmon opener on July 1st. We launched out of point defiance and fished the clay banks. The fishing action was great and we had a blast fishing for king salmon to kick of our fourth of July weekend!

I am still looking to get out this year as well. I'm off to a late start this year. This video was last year. I luanched out of Pt. Defiance in Tacoma. Right now, area 11 is closed, Area 10 Seattle is open, and you can launch out of ballard at eddie Vine. There's lot of coho and kings out there.

Awesome day fishing and to see king salmon which we don't have it in Kiwi-land, great trip and a few beauties were landed, tight lines and thumbs up from faraway land of New Zealand,, tony.

Ive been looking at the Hewescraft 180 sportsman. Do you think it would be a good boat for the sound?

So I have used my 160 sportman on the sound for 8 years. The hull pounds in the wind waves. I'd recommend smooth move suspension seats for it. That would make your body much happier with thats said hewescrafts are awesome boats. A pro v would be a little better ride for you or a 19ft sea runner better than that. The 180 sportman would getnit done on most days but I would go in the middle of the straights in it. Hope that info helps. My friend got an 180 and it rides nicer then my 160.

They are a lot of fun to catch. So much that I'm going to take tomorrow off to see if I can find a hungry one! Lots of big ones out of the bay area this year. Wish we got them as big up here in the numbers they get.

Yeah, it was a pretty action packed morning. Here in Puget Sound each marine area has different rules, with king salmon you have to release the wild ones. Salmon have an adipose fin on their back in between the dorsal and tail. They clip them off when they are smolts at the hatchery. No fin means hatchery fish. Good job! Went out July 2nd up there and got a 4 man limit! My dad and I also got a 20.4 pounder, 35 inch today. Huge!

Awesome! Yeah I got a solid one yesterday about 33 inches in area 10. Great job on the 20 pounder, you don't see too many of those in the sound.

Great job hooking those kings glad you guys had fun on opening day I didn’t went on that weekend but went the following Wednesday and Thursday and got my limit there it was awesome can’t wait for it to open back up. Right now I’m having a blast up in port hardy bc killing the kings and a few coho it’s awesome you need to make this trip since you got a bigger boat
