Thanks for checking it out! Most people don't like to catch them because they typically tangle your line and steal your hook and bait but I think they are an awesome fish!
@hanswurst54333 күн бұрын
Passionate eel angler myself, although in Germany we mostly catch our eels at night time. Much respect for trying to safely release them too! I would recommend a second towel, with which you can cover the eel's eyes for a while. That usually calms them down, so you when you remove the towel you have 5-10 solid seconds to remove the hook until he goes berserk again...

That is awesome! It's one of my favorite things about having this channel is that I meet other passionate eel anglers who love and want to protect the species. I appreciate the suggestion! I actually have a more recent video where I use a wet tarp to try to land them. I'm all about trying to protect the species. I'm glad you found my video. Thank you for checking it out! Very cool video. I didn’t know we had monster eels in the creeks around here. Is this the delco/montco area? I’m guessing a tributary of the Delaware/Schuylkill.
@delconashvilleline2 ай бұрын
You are correct on the area! A lot of people don't realize that we have them. They are almost always hidden. Typically I see them hidden between rocks and I have even seen them disappear into sandy bottoms. Thanks for checking out the video!

That is awesome! Catfishing in the creek can be a little tough. They are only in certain parts of it. That's insane that you were seeing that large of strippers that far upstream! Hopefully you can get on when of the big ones next year but that is great that you caught one this year!

interesting vid - from PA. Whats strange is that I've fished the susquehanna and Delaware for bass for 45 years and never caught an eel. Surprised they won't hit slow moving senko worms. Unless I saw your vid, would have never known they were here
@delconashvilleline Жыл бұрын
The rivers around here are really strange in that some have eels and some don't. It really comes down to whether or not they have Dams. I don't know about the Susquehanna but the delaware definitely has a healthy population. It's funny I've never seen them bite lures and I think the reason is because their eye sight is really poor my observations of them make me think they almost extensively fish by smell. I'm glad the videos have helped you learn about eels. I appreciate you checking it out!

Love your video. I am from Florida, and I really want to try eel fishing. But I don't know where to find them here. You said small creeks with rocks, but how far from the ocean
@delconashvilleline10 ай бұрын
Thank you! That is a good question. Eels can migrate very far into freshwater rivers and creeks. The biggest thing you need to be aware of us you need to make sure there are no dams between the ocean and where you are fishing. The dams will prevent the eels from migrating.

What should i look for in an eel fishing spot? I live on the Massachusetts coast. I'd love to catch some eels one day.
@delconashvilleline9 ай бұрын
That's awesome! Are you looking to catch them in freshwater or saltwater? If you are looking to catch them in freshwater the most important thing is to make sure there aren't any dams between where you are fishing and the ocean.
@tookmyhandle29 ай бұрын
@@delconashvilleline I hope to catch them in fresh water. Any idea if eels are considered a sustainable fishery? I really love the Japanese grilled eel with sauce and I would love to try to make my own-- but I would be hesitant to do so if this is a species that's in trouble.
@delconashvilleline9 ай бұрын
@@tookmyhandle2 that is a really good question. It is not technically considered endangered in the US but it's numbers have been declining since the installation of dams across the United States.

@@delconashvilleline nice! Thanks for the reply! Yeah, we’ve got some world-class saltwater fishing up here, I hope you got a chance to see the coast. I actually caught some American eel last season, with the help of your earlier videos. They tend to harass chicken legs, when there’s a bunch of people crabbing, and they can be pretty easy to catch around the docks because of that. This month I’m going for Conger eel, we’ve got them in the rocks off Narragansett. I’ve gotten small ones before, by accident, but now I’m targeting them on purpose. I’ve heard of people pulling them in over 5 feet long. The ones I have caught have been about 2 1/2 feet. Delicious.
