I see this is an alder video. I didn't know you could reliably catch them in the daytime. Eels can be caught whenever a creek is high and muddy from rain. Also, after dark.

Thanks for checking out the video! There is a common myth that they only feed at night. While they are more active at night, you can regularly catch them during the day in the summer.

The American Eel is supposed to be an endangered species. "The number of juvenile eels in the Lake Ontario area decreased from 935,000 in 1985 to about 8,000 in 1993 and was approaching zero levels in 2001." It was listed as an endangered species in 2008 at high risk of extinction. And this jacka$$ is here fishing specifically for them for KZbin views.
@delconashvillelineАй бұрын
This comments deserves a full response: 1. The American Eel is NOT an endangered species. That is an inaccurate statement. In the US The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service determine whether a species is an endangered species or not and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service does not classify the species as an endangered species. I'm assuming you got your information from Wikipedia where a random organization (International Union for Conservation of Nature) considers them endangered. They do not set the classification for what is considered endangered in the US. 2. There numbers have decreased through the years. Why? The creation of dams that across the United States of America that prevent them from migrating from the sea where they are born to the lakes and rivers they have lived in for centuries. It isn't because I catch and release 3 American Eels a year. 3. Did you actually watch the video? You could have learned a lot of this if you watched the whole thing. This video is meant to be educational and teach people how to release eels safely as many people catch them on accident and do not know how to safely release them. I try to show people how awesome this species is so we can protect it. I am one of like 5 people in the US who actually advocates for this fish. Lastly, I hope this response helps to clarify things. I don't mind the comment and actually appreciate it but I wanted to make sure you had the actual facts about the American Eel.
@Real_DealАй бұрын
@@delconashvilleline All you have to do is Google "American Eel", and the first video to pop up from KZbin is called Species at Risk by the Toronto Zoo. The numbers listed above are from Wikipedia. The American Eel has been designated as an Endangered Species since 2008. In Canada, we know how to count and read.

It's a really good question. My answer is I'm not sure. In my personal experience bass fishing this year in this area has been poorer than the last two years. I don't know why though.
