What anchor do you use. I’m running a plough mate and not so good in rubble. Really like your info.
@ShannonsFishing10 ай бұрын
I always run a sand anchor, set up on a trip system so I always get it back with 5 mtrs of chain. This method will hold pretty much anywhere. Good luck mate.

Another excellent educational video thanks Shannon. I'd like to request a new video or two, first all about anchoring offshore, max depth, species, weather, anchor types etc. Also fishing on the drift techniques and when to do it. I'm on the Sunshine Coast by the way and new to offshore fishing. Boats are using Minn Kota now and I use one in the estuary but the offshore boat I will be on is 8 meters in size.

Thanks mate for the kind words and I will happily do a couple of videos on anchoring and drifting I just have another 2 requested videos to do first.

Cheers for the tips mate, any tricks for finding the reds on flat ground? Easy enough targeting fish on structure, seems like it’d be a big search finding them on the flats.
@ShannonsFishing3 ай бұрын
No mate , there is no easy way to find them on the flats just keep an eye on the sounder as you are heading out and about. Once you find some spots with fish, mark them as the fish will keep coming back to these spots from time to time. Good luck mate

Do you change your rig when using the downrigger method? Or just take off the snapper lead from the bottom loop of the paternoster? I’d think the two hooks might get tangled with 20 metres of unweighted line flopping about.
@ShannonsFishing5 ай бұрын
Good question mate. When using the downrigger I only have a hook at the end of my leader, I let out around 20 mtrs then clip into the peg on the downrigger ball then drop to desired depth letting the single bait free float around. Works very well in high current. Good luck mate.

Thanks for answering mate. I’m going on a charter in my home town of 1770 soon. Haven’t been on one since I first moved here 20 years ago as my little tiller steer tinny is only good for jack and Barra stuff in the estuary or pelagic trolling in close. It will be paternoster fishing only but I’m so happy you’ve taught me the right way to put circles on a paternoster, I was one of those guys that caught very little on circles and now I know that not only was I striking when I shouldn’t I also had the hooks rigged the wrong way! (I watched your other video on circle hook rigging as well 👍) We might change from dead bait to livies with this skipper when he gets to his fave red spot. I’ve never pinned a yakka with a circle hook and am wondering if it’s more fiddly because the point is further around inside the gape than J hooks and you have a very unimpressed yakka going mental in your hand?
@ShannonsFishing5 ай бұрын
@@Henno1965 Your welcome mate, and yes it is a little more tricky to put lives on with a circle hook but it can be done. Good luck on your charter I hope you catch some big reds.

@@nickjay7362 Hi Nick I use to pro fish out of Yeppoon for Reds and Nanny's and we found that the cooler months were always better for the Nanny's and Reds fishing in 40 to 60 mtrs straight out off Stanage Bay. If you fish the same way as in my Red Emperor video with Pilchards and Squid you will do well fishing north of Yeppoon. Good Luck Buddy.

Hey young fella I’m a west Australian who have caught a red or two. My favourite hook is the gamakasto octopus circle hook. ( it’s spelled wrong but you’ll know) I’d be happy to share some experiences but not sure how to do it.

Lovely Ep and Advise, I was a Pro line fisherman as well on and off for 30 od years but did around 17 years strait. We fished from Double Island point to the swains, Id say 80% of our Reds we caught on Alvey Reef Queen deck winches were a lot easier on my back. We found fresh Mullet and fresh Tuna, fresh fish, many things were top bait for them.

How would that work of the Goldie
@ShannonsFishing Жыл бұрын
Not sure how the Cuttlefish would work. I have used the downriver trick in high current off the Goldie to catch Snapper, Jew and Cobia. Using the paternoster rig bouncing back to a school of fish does work for Pearl Perch and proberly good for other species as well. Good Luck mate.
