Try Wiritoa on the outskirts of Wanganui. The Perch are much bigger there.

I had the choice of going there or to Tutaenui resevoir and I imagined it would be better there, but I struck out on more little ones up there. Will have to go visit Wiritoa next time!

I have a prototype reel, and i just use my Black Magic Squid rod for trout fishing too, it's designed for light lures and it does a great job at both.
