Got my DB-01 recently. One thing that bigs me is if I turn a step off to see what it sounds like without it, then back on it always resets to C. Any way to toggle off/on ans retain the current note value?

Yeah that is so pointless, why would you want to reset a note, you want to be able to turn them on and off but not loose the note. I wrote to Erica to make this possible, I would suggest you write to Erica with this feature request, some users have also done the same. This is a must have!
