As of 20q8 i believe legal size is 12" , 5 bag limit and you can take them out of waters depper than 250'.

Ish With Fish they're actually not really unicorns, I met a guy who told me he caught one a week before, and I tossed a whole squid targeting lings. Make sure you suspend the bait at least a foot above the sinker or your bait will 100% get eaten by crabs. Literally drop the bait 5 feet out from the rocks, lots of ppl make the mistake of casting too far when the lings are literally right in front of them.

I lost a ling at the end of south jetty few months back was so big i couldnt pull it through the hole i was fishing broke my 30lb braid. Real life almost broke my pole after that. They are def out there if you can find those deep holes in the rocks.

Ryan Lin I used a 1.5 oz pyramid weight at the bottom with baitholder hook tied 2ft above the weight, and I used big chunks of frozen squid for bait. Good luck!

I highly recommend the Phenix Maxim 7'7'' Med Heavy, it's my main casting rod and I basically use it for everything. You can pick one up at Fisherman's Warehouse in San Jose

Grew up in Latin America and Avocado was never paired with fish ... Always with sour stuffs or lemon , but never with avocado.... Maybe with guacamole , Avocado , onions , jalapeños and lemon juice .

Heading out to the HMB to do some jetty fishing next weekend and was thinking about exploring the north side-- opposite where you pulled that rockfish-- and maybe around Mavericks. Have you ever tried that area? I know most fish the south jetty but I wonder if that's just because the north side requires more walking... ?

Anyone thinking of this please check the surf report carefully. The north side takes the brunt of the swells, often see waves breaking violently over the sea wall.

@@axminsterz4151 appreciate the comment! This was 5yrs ago and definitely not during any crazy swells. In the end, there are just other spots I’d rather wet a line than combat fishing on that jetty 😂 but you’re right, check the swell and swell period. That north side gets hammered!

WOW - I saw the light thingy behind you, was that at the very tip of the south jetty? how long did it take you to get there (not sure if my knees would be up it - hahaha) is there a big difference in the depth of the water when compared to say just halfway the jetty?

It's about a 30 minute walk to the end of the south jetty! Lots of rock hopping. Yes the water is significantly deeper past the bend in the south jetty, fishing is much better there and that's where the larger rockfish are
