At the time it was created, Lake Nasser was the biggest manmade lake in the world. This vast reservoir can contain up to 169 billion cubic meters of water… A genuine treasure in one of the driest regions on earth.
Since its creation, the lake has as much transformed the lives of its fishermen as those of its underwater creatures. It's estimated that six to ten thousand fishermen are now working on the lake. Before the dam was built, there were only a few hundred of them. As for the fish, their numbers have drastically dropped.

This definitely give a new term to the meaning of "over-fishing". Imagine, boat loads of fish caught everyday for that man-made currency for over decades. There's only so much mother nature can take.. I'm surprised at the resilience of the aquatic inhabitants in this lake. So much over-fishing and yet, there's still fish. MAN IS THE BIGGEST DESTROYER OF ALL CREATIONS.

I feel like they should also plant more trees and plants around the lake and try to reclaim the desert bit by bit, if they are not doing it already. From the video it looks so barren.

Thank you for uploading this video. I am interested in how Ethiopian dam GERD would affect River Nile and Aswan Dam(Lake Nasser). Would they dwindle because of newly built dam GERD? And If Aswan Dam already influenced Mediterranean sea badly, Would GERD too? I recently knew ecosystem in Mediterranean sea have been facing problem caused by change of the Nile stream caused by Aswan Dam, invasive species coming from Suez canal and ballast water, and climate change. And now GERD will likely influence all them? Chaotic...

Then Egypt should impose fishing tax on these guys buy small carp from the money and put them back in the reservoir: more catch in general.
