The apprehension of new waters is like a petrol gauge. Empty, full, or anything in between. If the smaller fish are there the larger ones must be there too. Great video Robbie.

55 years ago we had redfin at lock 7 near Renmark, caught them using foil milk bottle tops as lures. No carp then, good old days!

Just drove past there on my way back to the Coast and the channel is near empty, but have always had some good luck out that way. Nice session on the Carp and Reddies, but several guys from Deni swear by that area for Murray Cod in the summer. The bakery in town is worth a try too if you get back over there. Nice job and hopefully you get back there again!

They are draining all the channels, the ones out my way are being drained atm, im not there as we’re travelling but family has said it is great for fishing as it is so low, the main Warranga wester channel is know for big cod in some spots so it wouldn’t surprise me if there was cod in there

I know you have in the past Robbie, but I think that an explanation that these two species of fish are not native to Australia. So they don’t feel too bad when they’re hooked too deep or they feel that you’re being cruel just for the sake of being cruel. Which is nothing like you mate. I did have to look up where Berrigan is exactly and oh boy, lot of farmland and not much else down that way. Another 5-6 Redfin like those and you'd have enough for a whole can of sardines :) Carp were quite sizeable though

Hi mate, it varies from one spot to another. In a lake or a channel where everything is controlled it usually doesn't have a huge effect. Rivers can get very high and dirty though which could turn them on or shut them down.

Hey Robbie, next time you try Chanel’s take your shrimp net and yabby net, there’s tons of shrimp and tons of little perfect bait sized yabbies, I found you catch way less carp on the shrimp and yabbies, the channel fishing is my type of fishing, the channels I used to fish are way smaller than that one. I find that reddies that feed on yabbies and the like tend to be more darker in colour, the silvery ones tend to feed more on fish. I could be wrong but that's what I've noticed.

I think in NSW, releasing Redfin is discouraged in the regulations (though not banned) - I guess they are considered a pest.

They have fish in there? While I was at a job site at berrigan, learning about the farm for school I asked if they had fish in the channel and they said no but I guess they do. Those channels are to flood the fields where they farm, if you look around the edges of the paddock there’s flood gates

Question: are we not supposed to also dispatch the Redfin as well as the carp as they are both pest species… I’ve just retired & starting to fish again for the first time in 35 years so I’m not quite up on the rules & 99% of my fishing is in saltwater

Hi John, no mate we are definitely allowed to release redfin in both NSW and in Victoria. The law states that we must not be in possession of live redfin. We can not transport them from one waterway to another, but we most definitely can release them back where we caught them.

@@johnmuller5342 Thanks mate. Unfortunately there are a lot of people spreading misinformation. With redfin it's almost like propaganda. I get people literally attacking me online for releasing redfin and trying to convince me that I'm wrong, but with my large following it's in my best interests to know the laws. LOL Some people just hate anything that isn't native and want them exterminated. Whether it's redfin, trout, deer, wild brumbies etc.... With redfin the law is in place to prevent any further spread of redfin into waterways where they don't already exist. If there's no redfin there, we don't want them there. But one they're already in a waterway they're almost impossible to fish out.
