Air heats up over the land faster than the ocean, air to rises over the land generating wind in form of cooler air rushing in off the ocean. That’s why mornings often have less wind, sun hasn’t heated the land yet to start the process.

Good info @southcoastchompers and how good is an early morning start... before the crowd and the weather heats up. All the best with the fishing. Cheers, Justin

I saw you had an Okuma ITX reel in the start, I recently bought a 3000 size and while is smooth as and has incredible drag... its just a wind knot monster! I have respooled it twice but for the life of me I cant get it to stop creating a massive birds nest on every 15th odd cast. I have never had this with any other reel anymore and Im starting to think its not me. I know all of the rules about wind knots and Im very specific about not reeling on slack etc, never had to deal with them before but every time I use the ITX I end up getting a massive mess and just heading home.

The wind isn't your enemy, it can help you catch more fish if you are prepared to learn and understand all of the little things that wind on the water does. It moves the top layer of warm water along with it towards the lee shore, creates little shore breaks on the lee shore that stirs up the bottom, oxygenates the water and drives the microorganisms that small marine life feed on towards the lee shore which in turn lures the predators there. If you can, try to get the wind at your back but if not face straight into it, get down low when casting and keep your cast as low as possible to the water's surface - the wind has more of a rolling action below a metre above the water surface and loses a bit of power. Cross winds will ruin your day every time so avoid them at all costs.

Don’t know how you catch fish retrieving that fast and with a ten pound leader. I would definitely catch nothing.

In angling with soft plastic fishing lures, a fast retrieve can offer several benefits. Firstly, it can create a more realistic movement of the lure, mimicking the natural swimming action of prey fish. This can help to entice predators into striking the lure. Secondly, a fast retrieve can allow the angler to cover more water in less time, increasing the chances of encountering active fish. Additionally, it can help to keep the lure at a consistent depth, which can be important when targeting fish that are suspended in the water column. Finally, a fast retrieve can be used to trigger a reaction strike from fish that are not actively feeding. This can be particularly effective in situations where the fish are in a neutral or negative mood, as the sudden burst of speed from the lure can provoke a strike response.

Yet Steve Starling and many others say slow down on yr retrieve. Anyway thanks for the response and I may give the faster retrieve a go, especially, as is the case seemingly every time I fish, it’s fishing slow, and the bite tough, I will mix it up more and try the faster retrieve.

@@justinadams5159 I'm the same I normally love a slow retrieve, but I asked chat gpt too steel man the fast retrieve for me haha. I had the thought that he's running a 1000 reel as well so that might make it look like its going faster than it would on a bigger reel.
