The second step in fishing kayak setup for beginners is being able to transport the kayak and for that you need a great kayak cart build. But, your DIY kayak cart does not have to cost a fortune! I show how to build your own kayak cart out of scraps! I believe this is the cheapest kayak cart you can make. Bottom line is you cannot do fishing kayak mods unless you can get your fishing kayak to the water!

After watching countless videos and looking at about 100 different designs your cart is by far the simplest. Wow a perfect example of Less is More. 👍

@@KayakhacksFishing Wish I saw your video before building the one I have. Not saying the design of the one I built is bad; much simpler than most. The big difference is that your design is bulletproof. There is no way in heck that the kayak will side slip off the cart even with only one bungee to apply some pressure. Like I said before ... less is more

This might be what I'm looking for. I've got a catch 100 and haven't found anything yet that I liked. This wood idea with hinges to make it fold down might be just the thing.

hinges would be a great addition!

Nice video! Enjoyed the humor 😂. I like the vertical 2x4 side posts. You probably couldn't get it less expensive and still have it be functional. We made a similar one for our PA17T. I was quite proud of it - until it shattered on the 2nd trip. The PA17T weighs in at about 250lbs (close to 300 all geared up) and we tried to make something to go from the trailer to the ocean. The cart had a solid axle as axle bolts would not have held and the (treated) wood got soaked (and too soft) after it got wet. The Harbor Freight wheel bearings also rusted after the 1st trip (despite rinsing) and became bushings instead. The result was a 250lb load on the equivalent of a thin balsa wood platform dragging on round skids - and the result was entirely predictable to anyone (except me apparently). The worst part we I was showing it off when it decided to self-disassemble 🤣😂🤣. Anyway, most people don't have heavy kayaks and your solution looks like a perfect fit for the overwhelming majority of the normal ones 😎

I really appreciate your thoughtful comments! I can't imagine the challenge of wrestling wtih a kayak that large!

@@KayakhacksFishing For now, we have given up wrestling with it. We currently use boat ramps to launch it directly from a trailer. In TN (where we live), we launch from a customized steel trailer. In FL, the plan is to get and use a galvanized or aluminum John boat trailer (preferably before the steel one rusts out). The kayak itself is a perfect fit for us as it comfortably holds 2 (actually 3) people, has an enormous weight capacity, and my wife and I can fish and "explorimacate" together. I've also seen where single anglers have used this model for tournament fishing. However, it is definitely a niche boat. Like everything else in life (and kayaking), there are always tradeoffs. I greatly appreciate your channel and the various hacks and tips you have. Obviously, not everything will work as-shown for everyone, but nearly all of the general concepts can be ported to fit most circumstances 😁

Very good idea. I too have added up the PVC to make a cart and you do get close to the cost of a second hand one. Wheels especially.

You probably don't have a problem with the kayak slipping on the wood runner (for instance when a wheel hits a rock or hole). If you do, some foam (weatherstripping, pipe insulation, or a slit pool noodle) can be attached to the runner and that should help with the slipping.

I would recommend solid tires instead of pneumatic ones particularly on a cart that may only get used infrequently. Harbor Freight has some cheap, relatively lightweight options for solid tire wheels.

Once one has all the seating, etc in the kayak, storing the cart while on the water as you showed may be problematic. That's my main prob with carts; I'd like to be able to take it on the water instead of walking back to truck but be as unobtrusive as possible.
