Question of the Day ⚡ What's your favorite Kayak mod?👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼

I very much like the kayak, but my question is why is there nothing inside the cargo holds to store belongings in? It's just a hole into the inside of the kayak. Am I missing something?

This may be a stupid question, I just bought a kayak, what are those sliders you have along your kayak that you then attach everything to? You have your pouches attached to it, your yak rod holders, your fish finder etc. What are those called and are they universal?
@wendellfishing3 жыл бұрын
That’s a great question. They are called different things by different companies. Yak Attack calls it a “Gear Trac” system. Here’s a link to a 8 inch long trac: amzn.to/3sJ3dpI. They also are referred to as “Trackmount” systems as well. Most fishing kayaks come with them but if you are modifying a regular kayak for fishing, I’ve see people attach these with success. The only thing I would be careful with it how much weight you put on it as these systems are usually reinforced on fishing kayaks to support the extra weight by the boat design. Fish finder and rod holders... likely not a problem. Landing gear... could give you issues with a heavy yak! Hope that helps!

Also, can you show how you use the Landin Gear when getting into and out of the water with out getting wet feet?
@wendellfishing3 жыл бұрын
I usually put in near a dock so I will roll the kayak dow to the water (nose first) and then walk it to a little deeper water and then just wiggle it out... turn my boat around... and then do the other side. If I'm coming in off the water... I just turn around in my seat and put them into position so all I need to do is hop out of the yak and make my way to the trailer. Most would put their "Sidekick" closer to the seat but I actually like it better behind my Kayak Crate. The Kayak fits nicely with the design of the yak if the Sidekick is towards the end.. and like the video said... helps create a bumper so I don't destroy my rudder extension.

Another very nice video. I have just had a transducer mount made so I can mount the transducer thru the pedal cassette opening. It attaches to the top rim of the opening and lies tight up against the bottom directly below the seat just behind the opening. The bottom of the Slayer 10 protects the transducer in that location due to the shape of the bottom. Don't have it installed yet but should within a week. Great work on your videos!

Thanks Tom! I would love to see photo's of your end design as I may move my transducer arm if I like your design.

Hey man great videogoing over your setup- using the wheels as a rear bumper is awesome! That would make a good guard for a transom motor as well, I would think. The inflatable PFD's are designed to only pop when fully submerged...all day in the rain is no problem! Cheers
@wendellfishing2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the good word! The only thing about the rear bumper is that you need to mount your sidekick further back creating a heavier load on the mount. I've seen kayak and track plates rip out when the load it too much. For sure on the PFD. Thanks for the comments!

How do you like having your landing gear mounted so far back? I have a Native Slayer Propel Max 12.5 and my sidekick is mounted close to the back of my seat, next to the side carry handles. Curious as to if there's a difference
@wendellfishing3 жыл бұрын
Great question. Although I understand physics and know it makes everything heavier when picking it up. I guess I never got around to changing it. I believe that I saw that if I did move it close to my seat it would mean that my kayak crate would now be over my rudder cables and I didn’t want to deal with it. I think I will end up changing it. It’s quite a bit of weight and I’m a tree root away from ripping rail out of the kayak.
@justinperry63693 жыл бұрын
@@wendellfishing Just a heads up if you do choose to move it, put some thought into how you want to organize your rod holders on your rail system. When the gear is in the up position it can get in the way or rub on the holders and that can be a little bit of an inconvenience at times.

@@Samy_aza_TTV Great question. The LockNLoad system from YakAttack is a T-mount system. So if you have the trackmount featured in the photo's then this will be what you want to use. Excellent vid. Question: if you were to DIY those wheels what would you use? Also, i've had issues in the past with center of gravity after elevating my seat on my kayaks - how do you get around that? Thanks :)
@wendellfishing2 жыл бұрын
I don't think I have an answer for you on the DIY wheels. There's a ton of weight transferred to the wheels and I wouldn't want anything other than steel landing gear. When it comes to your center of gravity, it's going to depend primarily on your hull design. There's 14 different types of hull designs and some will perform better for you. I have a pontoon style hull and could literally sit in a lawn chair and be fine. There may be nothing you can do for it outside of putting on side riggers or getting a new yak.
