I headed west to fish in Lake Cooper near Corop, before heading across to the Waranga Basin to meet up with my mate Rohan to go fishing for redfin. Here is how the day unfolded...

What I found is: if there’s minimal wind, the minnows will come to the surface and the Redfin will chase them and you can see them on the surface. Super good when you’re out in the kayak because you can sneak onto the spot without disturbing them but then if the minnows have disbursed, the Redfin might. I’ve used this tactic myself and it’s a hit and miss.
@robbiefishing

Redfin have always been my favourite fish to catch and eat. Good little fighters, wonderful tasting flesh, but for my money, the best bit about them is their skin. The worst part is the scaling, as they have very tight scales. Which is why lots of folks skin them and miss out on the best part. One man's opinion.
@robbiefishing
@robbiefishing 8 ай бұрын
Hi James, I am glad you shared your opinion. Thank you. I have never once scaled a redfin, I usually skin them. I must try this on your advice. Thanks for the heads up. 👍👍

I used to have my keeper bag hooked to my belt when I was wading. Not a problem in freshwater, but one day on the Broadwater at the Gold Coast I got intercepted by a bull shark about 3-4 foot long. It was a bit exciting for a while there.
@robbiefishing
@robbiefishing 10 ай бұрын
Haha oh WOW, I bet you never done that again. Hahaha 🤣🤣🤣 My dad and my pop had one full of redfin years ago. It was hanging over the side of the boat. They filled it with big redfin but forgot to bring it into the boat when moving between spots. The bag hit a snag which pulled it straight out of the boat. LOL

Hey mate, love your videos but is freshwater fishing different to fishing in the salt? Because you dropped a few fish and I noticed you didn't strike and set the hook. Is that that something you don't do in the fresh? Just a question, not a criticism.

HEY ROBBIE, I’ve got a question. I imagined saying that in your voice at the start of each video. How come we can use live baits here but not live fish? They can in the ocean though, but I am not much of a fisherman but I have fished my whole life, but after I hurt my shoulder a few years back I’ve cut down to a few times a year and I’m in Yarrawonga, but all growing up I would fish probably the same amount really because I was in wattle Glenn, anyway dads mate had dams and we would go there probably once a month, sometimes we fished the diamond creek and I’d fished the king parrot once or twice, but no one has ever used a live little fish. I know you’re not allowed to use gold fish but they reckon they’re the best thing. I could never hook a fish and throw it out, I am a worm farmer and they’re for my veggie gardens, they’re not the ones you’d fish with, so I could never use a worm, I can’t hurt any animal really, but are you allowed to in any fresh waters in Australia?
@robbiefishing
@robbiefishing 10 ай бұрын
Hi Billy, I did not know that. I know you're not allowed to use love fish in freshwater, but I didn't know that you could in salt water. That is really strange. I guess it is one of those crazy rules that make no sense. As for not hurting animals, I believe that I can tell a lot about a person's animals by their respect for animals. I never begrudge anybody who cannot hurt an animal. I think it is a sign of a caring heart.

@@robbiefishing I feel the same way, I rescued a cocky on the way to wang on grand final day, I saw him on the way over and I told him if he wasn’t ok and had his head down when I came back I’d put him out of his misery. It was Yarra side of peachelba. I couldn’t find him, I had 50kgs of pet mince in the back of my car that was warming up and I was searching for ages. I found him, took him and he got out of the jumper and shirt I had him wrapped in while I was doing 100kmh lol. I took care of him for a few days and he was flapping his wings like he was ok, I let him go yesterday, before he took off he bit me twice lol but he flew off happy and I was happy to have done that for him. It was a bit of a mission catching him and putting him in the ferret cage snd then everything else I did grand final day, I didn’t get to watch the game at all, but I helped an animal and that was more important to me 😊

It's dropped fairly quickly over the last 2 weeks. I call that spot " Red letterbox spot" . I reckon there's some bigger reddies in there somewhere. Great video as usual.

Thanks mate, I'm not surprised at all. When Rohan lost that spinner the water was a foot higher. It is definitely stopping quickly, although it may fill back up after this week's rain. They might divert water into it perhaps to take pressure off the river maybe..
